Dehumidifier for Cabinet

I store my PLA at 10% or below and no problems with it but maybe others have seen issues. If you don’t have another reason for not storing PLA in with the others, I bet it would be fine if you do.

Now to find something similar, this thing works great, and if I can find something like it, I’m betting it will be at least $100 cheaper than the membrane.

Dessicant wheel! I considered that for me as well, but couldn’t find one sized right for me.

I have 25 or so rolls of various PLAs stored in mine @ 12% rh, zero print issues for me.

Nice! Thanks for the data point! I think there shouldn’t be problems storing all filaments in that range instead of having a cabinet at higher humidity. But maybe some filament doesn’t like that. My experience is limited with different plastics. I don’t print the “exotics”.

I keep PLA, PETG, TPU, ASA, PC, and nylons all in one place, and if it’s an engineering filament I will throw it into the AMS-HT for a dry cycle prior to printing.

The only filaments I keep separate are the PPA and PPS, just because they are a bit harder to fully dry before printing.

That is an interesting model. The full PolyDryers are a bit of a question though. I wasn’t able to find how far the PolyDryer itself alone can lower humidity. They have you pour silica gel beads into the box that holds the hygrometer used to tell humidity in the box and show photos with the hygrometer pegged at 10%. Dry silica gel will do that with or without the PolyDryer.

CC3D’s dry boxes might not use silica gel because the humidity graph they show never gets that low - 16% is as low as documented in that graph with 20% or slightly more looking like an average. It’s interesting that the dry box humidity follows the room humidity which implies leaks or that the PolyDryer performance might be marginal for that size of box/chamber and doesn’t perform that well when ambient humidity is high. The humidity in the dry box can apparently hit 30% though (from his graph), and might be a trouble spot, but it does seem to reduce humidity about 30% RH below ambient

But filament only needs to be dry enough to print well. Both could be benefits depending on the local environment.

Well the hard part is the cabinet.

You can pretty much shove any dryer in there with mods.

You are limited with respect to dryer temperature however, as the plastic of the cabinet can warp, and cause the thing to leak or fall apart.

My cabinet is sturdy and won’t warp. I just can’t find the right dehumidifier to keep the filament under 20%.
