How do the designing competitions on Makerworld even work? How does the judging work with those and stuff like that? I’m a wee big confused but I want to try to submit something to one sometime.
it is judged normally on 3 categories, outlined in the description of the contest
This is an oft-discussed topic, several times by myself. While competition criteria are listed in the descriptions, they’re pretty much exclusively judged by vibes. There are no consistent or predictable indicators as to which entry might win
Who actually judges them though? Is it the people at makerworld? I’ve seen the word “jury” used around recently and it confused me a little bit.
MakerWorld employees, there’s no public vote or special dedicated panel
competitions are sadly partly a popularity contest and majorly favour more popular designers
I used to believe/think that too, but it can’t be true, and now I’m absolutely certain of it! But I think… you have “i believe” to be really in to it with heart and passion!
So many people ask this question.
These should be considered a few rules of thumb.
- You will not win
- You might win
- Your work may be the best, not a factor in success
- Your work may be the worst, this doesn’t rule you out
- You work may not reflect the contest, sometimes you get flagged, sometimes they don’t care
- Entering on day one may help
- Entering on day one may nit help
- Entering on the last date may hurt you
- Entering on the last date may not hurt you
- Humans may be reviewing
- Aliens may be reviewing
- Someone will always be unhappy
- Your views are not their views
- The views of others are irrelevant
- Guessing is usually as helpful in determining a winner that gets announced
Think of contests as a way to promote your RELATED work in the contest giving you a short term visibility bump you wouldn’t ordinarily get.
Don’t get mad if you are not a winner even if everyone else agrees, logic as you (and others, myself included) understand it, is often not part of the equation.
I would add, sometimes you might win anyways
I already did, the second entry.
I was specifying that even if your model doesn’t fit the contest it might win anyways, lol.
