Diamondback for PETG!

Not sure if anyone’s posted about this but am sure the issue of PETG sticking and clumping on nozzles has.

While I’ve used Nozzle Coat from PartsBuilt3D with success, it’s very shortlived. And in a mass printing business situation, having to pause for the nozzle to cool down and recoat very 2 or 3 prints isn’t really cost effective.

While waiting for one of Big Tree Tech’s new Panda Juicer SF Vantec coated nozzles I decided to try a DiamondBack nozzle, as the interwebz AI says that the DB has natural antistick properties.

Well…after a week of printing and some of it multicolor, I have to say that it’s true. And I’d say that the time and worry saved were well worth the $145 for the nozzle. From PartsBuilt3D.com by the way, if you are in the US. That’s for the A1 series nozzle.

I will test the BigTreeTech Vantec coated nozzle when it comes in, so we’ll see if there is a cheaper option than the DiamondBack.

Note that I use a lot of CF and GF filaments so, the DiamondBack is also a long term investment as well.

Also note that I had to add a 3 perimeter skirt to get rid of the little blob that forms when the printer does it’s preprint extrude on the plate edge.

Hey, I can confirm this from a real-world production perspective.

I’ve been running an E3D Diamondback 0.4 (officially developed in cooperation with Bambu Lab and licensed) for the last 5 days basically 24/7, printing PETG-CF parts for Nerf blaster builds.

These parts are not just decorative — they’re designed for performance (targeting ~275 FPS), so mechanical strength and heat resistance from flywheel motors are a real factor.

So far:

  • ~15 plates printed

  • ~82 individual parts

  • Only 4 parts had layer-related issues (not clearly nozzle-related)

Materials used:

  • PETG-CF (black, grey, blue) for final parts

  • Support PLA for supports (multi-material)

My takeaway:
The anti-stick behavior is very noticeable, especially with PETG-CF.
Way less buildup on the nozzle compared to standard hardened or coated nozzles.

Also interesting:
Even with multi-material printing and frequent purging, the nozzle stays remarkably clean and consistent, which helps a lot with reliability in long runs.

For my use case, this isn’t just about convenience — it’s about reducing failure risk during long print cycles.

So yeah — expensive, but in a production-like scenario, it absolutely makes sense.

I, too, am using this in a production setting.

I’m working out of my home because I am recovering from surgery and am using an A1-Mini to print my parts and eventually want to setup the Chitu Plate Changer system.

And I can’t wait to get back to my shop and out the Diamondbacks on my X1 and P1. I use the .6 nozzles mostly unless I need the extra detail from a .4 nozzle. For most of the products I’ve designed, the .6 is perfect and the faster print time is ideal.

The only other issue I’m having now on single color prints is the Nozzle Build Up check the printer does even though I’ve toggled it off. After the 3rd layer it swings over to the right and as it nozzles is still hot, it dribbles out a little half inch string of filament that gets dragged back into the print!

It wasn’t an issue on the multi-color prints because it went over to the purge tower first to start re-printing before getting to the print itself.

I’ll have to see if I can do the purge tower even on a single color print and have the tower stop at the 4th layer.
