I’m not going to post the model in question in case my suspicions are wrong.
So I saw a cool model on Makerworld, it was very popular for having been released a day ago with like 700 downloads, it was also a simple yet clever model that only took like 20 minutes to print. I printed it and the popularity seemed organic, it wasn’t AI or a model that didn’t work. The print profile the author created left some things to be desired though… so I added one profile I created with my personal tweaks to the profile listing more in line with what I wanted and more of what I would think someone else would want.
The new profile I created got 50 downloads in one afternoon over about 6 hours when I checked before going to bed which is way more than I ever normally do on a single model. I checked again today mid-day and the author had released his own similar profile to the one I made. The downloads on the profile I created were now reading 44. I thought I had misread the 50 downloads the night before. Now this afternoon the downloads on my profile I created are down to 34. So the download count is definitely going backwards.
So I’m wondering if downloads are being removed is this guy getting boosted artificially and they got my profile along with it…? …and now I’m wondering if am I getting dinged for what he’s doing?
I’ve never seen this happen with any of the models I have ever created and posted models and profiles for myself.
