I am printing a board game, and after switching my filament colors I absent-mindedly started printing the next piece while forgetting to take the previously printed piece of the print bed!
I sent the design to the printer from the other room, so didn’t even notice until I heard an odd noise. I came in to my older print being dug into.
What diagnostics should I perform to make sure my printer is okay after this mistake?
Try printing a cube and see if it looks broken.
It should be fine.
Check if hotend is clear.
And run calibration.
Check to see if your nozzle is still straight (left/right, back/front).
If it is bent, do not use the printer.
If it is straight, watch the first print.
This happens to all of us. I did it again yesterday, not the first time, not the last, and I have been printing for years.
Most of the time, everything should be fine.
However, if the nozzle is bent, there is a chance that there could be a thermal runaway that isn’t detected, which can cause a fire.
If the nozzle is bent 2mm or less, you may be able to straighten it. A smart person would buy a new one.

Check the fan shroud in back too. I broke one in a similar way. If it backs up in Y, that plastic shroud gets rammed into a rigid piece, it might die. Mine was repairable but it woulda leaked air without the repair.
