Did you ever dry a BBL refill without mounting first in a spool?

I’m out of free spools right now.

One of my printers is using a spool of black Bambu PLA Basic that will be empty probably in 12/14 hours. I would like to dry another one to continue the print as soon as possible, but I have no free spool right now.

I thought about drying the refill in a AMS HT as it is from the package but I don’t feel confident the adhesive of the four plastic strips that secure the filament will not fail with the heating.

Does anyone try this previously?

Please, no other solutions need to be propose, I only want to now if someone tried it and the spool survived rolled up.

Thanks!

I have dried refills outside of spools. Just leave the little straps on and don’t flex the windings until it’s on a spool. But no issues at all for me.

I haven’t had issues with the straps coming undone but don’t recall doing this with anything but PLA.

I dry in a Sunlu S2 which doesn’t roll the filament during a dry. Not sure how that would go.

I will try. Maybe we will laugh together in some hours.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the subject (I knew I wasn’t the first to think about trying it, hahaha).

Same here. Done it on a heatbed. No issues.

Dont put it in a roller dryer and youll be 99.9% fine. I imagine agitation is game-over but luckily you can prevent that

I find this thread very useful. Such a simple “question” and never has been discussed here (AFAIK).

Reminder that I believe all Bambu’s have a printable spool file in their memory.

It’s not the best model (uses too much filament) but it is functional.
