Did you know this about z-offset?

Even if you run all the calibrations your prints can still look like the below Pic… I had to go into the machine g-code and raise the z offset by .06mm and now it looks very smooth.

Apparently the machines ‘nozzle offset calibration’ just knows to set it according to the g-code that is sent from bambu studio? Maybe those more knowledgeable than me can explain… All I know is it made a huge difference!



Machine z Offset = applied on top of the autocalibration result. So if your autocalobrate always yields you 0 05 too close, you can 0 05 your way out of the problem.

Many would suggest that you still have a problem though. And they might be correct. I use this setting sparingly. If your autocalibrate fixes itself eventually, your next print gets smushed into the bed/floats on top. /Shrug

Specifically for the textured PEI plate the print head does go on a lower offset. This is by design and it is activated if you select textured PEI in your plate section.
And this lower offset, combined with variations on flow-rate and filament temperature can cause the look of a first layer (like the one on your photo).

You can slightly reduce the 1st layer flow in the slicer which should eliminate the roughness of your 1st layer. But at the same time the adhesion might be a bit lower (which is also the case when increasing the 1st layer nozzle/printbed distance).

yes basically I backtracked and trouble shot the issue and found that the file I was using with the bad 1st layer results (an iron flow test I pulled off makerworld) had the 1st layer set to a .25mm layer height instead of the .2 it should have been… that and the initial layer line width was .56 instead of the .5 it should have been for my set up.

TLDR: changing the z offset for the settings in the file fixed the issue… but so did changing the settings and leaving the z offset.

Still, it’s good to know where to access the g-code if I need it :slight_smile:
