I don’t particularly like the term “dislike designer” but the function is great. There are hundreds of ‘designers’ who make things I don’t want to see, and many of them are prolific. This fills the list of new models with unwanted stuff.
I have thoroughly enjoyed ‘hiding’ unwanted designs/designers but just ran into the 200 limit for the list. That is silly, there are probably many of us who could use a thousand or unlimited number of unwanted designers on the site.
PLEASE increase the limit on the list or just make it unlimited. I can’t be the only one here who is sick of seeing silly stuff instead of models.
Problem is the performance penalty at a certain point, if they allowed you thousands of blocks they would have to constantly check each of those thousand blocks every time you loaded a page, and eventually that performance hit just isn’t worth it for them so they cap the number
Then why not make a " preferred designer" option so you see those on the main page? @MakerWorld
This would make a lot of sense when you operate in a niche where you’re looking for models.
This would also allow niche designers to hit the mainpage once again for their specific target group. This would also add immensely to the user experience on Makerworld.
In general it would make sense to add preferred items instead of just blocking items. Sometimes i want to see other stuff, but like to see my preferred stuff first.
Another option would be to strictly categorize models. This would allow selection of the categories you want to see and not cost much in processing. I realize my use of the site is limited, but I expect others (probably many others) would like to see what THEY want to see also.
There are MANY models posted that are trash. It isn’t hard to see that. So why not make a way to avoid the garbage or simply unwanted noise?
This site is very immature, I realize that and the cross culture interference is plain.
Unfortunately this site is just another example of ‘too many customers’ for a product. No matter how many users just quit using the site, the space will be filled by countless others.
So, making the site more ‘user friendly’, by allowing more viewing options would really be a win win for both the MakerWorld and the users.
What, you don’t like the users who put out the dust collecting shelf trinket chatgpt/blender renders that are less than a 5% deviation from the rest of their collection?
Ok, but bambu would rather not waste that 1 second per user per page load, time is money and while they are spending time dealing with your list of 5000 accounts you would rather not see but seem unable to just scroll past they could be serving pages to other people
So ultimately the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few in this case
I suspect the many… are needing this in reality, but no big deal.
The follow function is fine but I want to see new (useful to me) models from everyone. I don’t mind turning off the things I don’t like but that isn’t possible.
A message comes up when I attempt to add to the list saying that the list is full and you can remove some… duh, HOW can I remove some? (Another symptom of the inexperienced crew)
Updated to add: I found the list of “disliked designers” hidden in the preferences panel. There should be a link in the displayed message about the list being full.
Maybe that performance needed is the way to improve customer/user experience. Whether they want to invest to support an improved customer experience is another question altogether.
Yes, its hard to get a balance right, but i think either remove the limit, or come up with a different approach. What that could be i dont know.
The issue is, people are not using it as its intended, its meant to be used with designers who make models you might find offensive, someone who specifically makes political models you disagree with etc
But people are instead trying to use it to filter out things that aren’t actually offensive because they are stuck on the “all AI bad” train when they could just, you know, scroll past them, like normal people
Two different opinions. But one cannot know which is closer to reality based on posts on this forum. MW may know though, as they can see how many people actually reach the limit of 200.
If one wants to block thousands of accounts (most of these are probably bot accounts. Thousands more can be created to bypass the blocking), then an alternative is to have a whitelist instead of a blacklist. Or use a combination of category blocking and account blocking.
I think this argument lends itself to the definition of a what a new model is.
Is a model that is just in reality a minor variation actually a new model.
Obviously not, but if that minor revision is a necessary change to correct errors then yes, its a new model.
But with the caveat that original model is deleted.
This allows for true and necessary new model status, even with only a minor change. But it excludes the vanity or design variation or txt changes, classification of these should be not new designs. It can only be new if the intial model is removed, so a one in one out procedure, thus not bloating the system with false new models.
Also i would be cautious of phrases like the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, as it is the financial investment by the many that fund the site development. If it was only the few, then there would be no site at all.
Out of curiosity, what financial investments are you referring to? Also if these financial investiments by the many are what fund the site then wouldn’t their needs be important?
I prefer the whole pack of 1945 vip busts rather than pages full of ai models threw without even checking them, using a default render as image. these people did not even printed their **** once.
THESE are the ones to delete.
I am still searching for a Tito’s bust atm so if some ex-Yugoslavian is reading, please provide!
Yeah, I noticed. I just made one with Makerlab that turned out pretty good. I’m not the best with Meshmixer and he needs a little work on the eyes and nose. It would be a great starting point though.
