Disrespectful Comments from a Fellow Creator

I like to participate in Makerworld’s contests and recently released a model for the mouse contest. Since the vast majority of entries at the time looked very similar (most were light remixes of bambulab’s mouse) I decided to join with a retro mouse design, that I jokingly called Pointer 9000.

My little mouse gained traction and advanced to the 2nd trending place of contest entries, passing one of these “lightly remixed” models. The creator got upset that my “stupid design” (his words) passed his entry and started making multiple rude comments that were super disrespectful towards my design in many other models and on mine as well.

Some excerpts:

  • “your model is litterarly pointless”
  • “stupid design stupid background but gets trend nontheless. nonsense”
  • “old 1950 design that says step into the future with horrible design and stupid look”

Is this common behavior on Makerworld? I know the internet is full of trolls, but 3d modeling is a hobby I do to unwind and not to deal with this type of negative behavior. I believe it’s crucial for us to uphold the standards that make our platform a welcoming place for everyone.

Besides reporting the comments themselves, is there any other way I can/should reach out to @MakerWorld regarding this?

Reporting the comments are probably the best avenue.

That being said, naming the creator perpetrator here has shown to be very effective in the past…

Block and ignore them, I actually love your mouse design. Sadly, I don’t have the kit yet.

I get those toxic threats too, people are just jealous.

That is not common behavior at all, and I think it would upset a number of your fellow creators. In-fact, it does. It upsets me.

I like your Pointer 9000 too. That was one of the ones that stood out to me.

Fady comments like this???
He just makes a remix, which isn’t a problem in itself.

However, the issue is that the Bambu Mouse is licensed in such a way that he must credit the source and license it under the same terms.

What does he do?

He releases the design under a Standard Digital File License. To this day,

I don’t understand why this isn’t prevented and why nothing is done about it.

But don’t worry. I have already been in the top 5 of four competitions and closely observe how Bambu selects the winners. The jury has not focused on download and like numbers for a long time.

Clearly upset that your design is more popular than theirs. Not sure what FADY was trying to accomplish with that, but I like your model and I appreciate how much work you put into your assembly guide

Weird behavior :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I guess having a ton of downloads and boosts isn’t enough to make them happy that they have to be salty to others as well?

Just report and ignore. Life is too short to give attention to people like that.

i am really out of wanting to win the competition. i saw your screenshots and fixed the model’s description and licencing as i didn’t know i have to do that.

Sorry. i want to appologize about the comments i wrote earlier to you and to another participant in the contest of wireless mouse. i do not know why i reacted that way all of it being a 3d contest. i did not want to escalate things more so i just deleted that comment and other ones also. you’re right to report me for that cuz those were inappropriate words. no idea why this ended in bambu’s forum as a topic. i don’t know why you want to escalate things furthermore. sorry again. i was kind of stressed. we all have our problems. i believe maker world should not be a place for toxicity but as i was toxic i deleted my comment for no escalation. i was wrong, i did not mean to offend or insult you in anyway or seek no problems and sorry again.

Okay, public didn’t have to be either

You should use CC BY-NC-SA.

Genuine remorse and a apology? You don’t see that around here very often. Well done

I agree. I would accept the apology.

i really have no idea about that i am just used to check all of the points to not have my model sold or reuploaded

hate to break it to everyone but the “trending popularity” has nothing to do with who will win, thankfully …the winners are selected by an unbiased group from bambu labs

I think pretty much everyone is aware of how the contests are judged based on the results of previous contests. Winners being selected by an unbiased group from Bambu Labs is how it has to be. Winners determined by downloads and/or likes will make a contest vulnerable to manipulation.

I still think a Community Choice Award as voted on by accounts with a linked printer would help mitigate people feeling some type of way about the results.

Hey Faby, thanks for getting back to me here.

I would appreciate it if you could delete all remaining comments that are still published, like this one on the " Bad To The Bone Wireless Mouse".

I have to tell you that your behavior was really upsetting as more than once I was browsing through MakerWorld checking the contest entries just to find such comments from you targeting my work out of nowhere.

I also don’t want to escalate things and prefer to believe that your apologies are genuine, so I accept your apologies. Please be kind enough to really remove the toxic comments and just leave me in peace.

Actually, fadys model is so close to his prior designs it should really be ruled in admissible in the contest. Now the pointer on the other hand is brilliant

We condemn such behavior and all inappropriate and hateful comments will be removed. MakerWorld is a place for appreciation, love and respect, and we will do everything we can to preserve these core values of our community.
