Just finished the final design and play testing another CyberBrick project. Introducing Dodge Bots - disc-shooting RC bots!
The idea is users simply swap the Soccer Bot gantry with the Dodge Bot gantry, reconnect the servo and you’re good to go! Without even needing to reconfigure the RC modules!
I can see lots of game play potential including the following:
1. Elimination
(Modes: 1v1, Team Play, Free-for-all)
Players aim to knock down all opponent flags on their bots or knock down all opponent flag stands. The player to achieve this first, wins the round.
2. Checkpoint Race
(Mode: Free-for-all)
Players compete in a race where progress is only achieved by knocking down flags at each checkpoint. The first to cross the finish line wins.
3. Capture the Flag
(Modes: 1v1, Team Play)
Players must retrieve a magnetic flag and bring it back to their home base while avoiding the other players steal the flag. The player or team successfully completing this wins.
4. Survival
(Modes: 1v1, Team Play)
One player must dodge incoming discs from incoming players trying to knock down all the flag stands. The player should disable all incoming bots while preserving the flags.
5. King of the Hill
(Modes: Free-for-all, Team Play)
Players fight for control of a central flag zone. Points are earned based on time spent holding the zone while defending it from opponents.
Neat, is there a way to rig up something to detect being hit? then you could do a scoring system built in to the bots incase you wanted to have a 1v1 against the actual bots rather than stationary targets, could rig up a little basic digital counter etc
Yeah, I thought about that and using the Maker Supply magnetic connector but it’s too strong and to have one installed on each side of the bot, they have to be in a parallel circuit so that once both circuits are opened/disconnected, the bot will be disabled. It will require some finagling to achieve the parallel circuit so I decided not to do it for version 1 but let’s see what can be done in the next iteration.
For now, the flags are mounted lightly using a magnet that can be knocked down when a disc is shot against it.
I think it’s possible but it will be more involved, i.e., will require programming in MicroPython. As it is at the moment, the app only allows certain actions and responses but I assume will be expanded in the future.
