this printer (X1C) has 2000+ hours and stopped printing, still going through the motions but nothing is coming out of the extruder. so I replaced the Hot end complete,.4mm new.
still does not print. I read here that the thermal paste may be dried out, its a brand new complete hot end, so I took it apart and put thermal grease on the thermister. still no print. the noz is getting hot because there is still some filament in the noz and was dripping out of the noz.
there was no visable filamnet in the intake hole of the hot end, so i didn’t do the pull the plug out of the top of the noz. next I took the extruder apart to see if there is a plug in there and nothing. so I don’t know what to do next. any one have a suggestion?
to test this I turn the temp to 300C take the tube out of the top and use the extruder advance button. then i take a piece of filament and put in the hole and the extruder pulls it down and after it get so far you can fell the extruder gear riding on the filament but not pulling it in.then i reverse the extruder and it pushes the filament out of the extruder and when i pull it out you can tell the end has not been hot. did i miss anything?
It sounds like a bit of filament is stuck in the middle of the extruder. It’s a pretty easy tear down once you get it off.
thanks, it wasn’t the extruder as I indicated, but I used the small wire from the bottom into the nozzle and that fixed it.

I was printing something last week when it just stopped mid extruding mid print, then said it completed the print.
I just went to print something, and it did it again, it extruded filament out of the extruder to purge, but it never printed anything, then was 93% complete when I noticed there wasn’t anything on the bed.
This is a semi new printer- it replaced my older X1C in July, and does not have many print hours on it.
If the temperature (inside the extruder) reaches higher than the filament can hold structure, the filament will melt and get mushed inside and get stuck. So then the gears will keep rotating to feed the filament through the nozzle, but the filament is stuck. This causes the print progress to continue, without any filament coming out. Almost like a drainage pipe getting stuck with leaves, mud, and sticks all mushed in there.
It’s good to keep the air circulating to prevent heat-soak. Unfortunately, the extruder unit only has the part cooling fan (aside form the nozzle fan). Sometimes we need to decrease the fan speed (cooling speed) of the extrusions, which means heat is not exhausting out of the extruder head as well. This increases risk of filament getting stuck from being mushed. So then we keep the part cooling fan at a 100%, but now the delicated corners and areas are shrinking too quickly.
You have to find the sweet spot of both worlds. Unfortunately, bambulab hasn’t created a extruder head where the filament can be protected from the nozzle heat.
