My filament is calibrated with PA and flow ratio saved in OrcaSlicer profiles. I re-calibrate the printer and check bed level only as a part of routine maintenance or after moving the printer.
Not performing a complete Auto bed levelling and PA testing before every print saves me a substantial amount of time and has never caused a problem. There is still an abbreviated level check before each print which warns me if I’ve inserted a plate incorrectly or have debris under the plate.
Last week, I learned why Creality only prints a useless plastic scraper instead of the scraper that holds a semi-dull metal blade the way BL does. It sliped and sliced my left thumb open very bad. I had blood everywhere. I almost went to the ER, but used Super-glue and hit my first aid kit. I loss the use of my left hand for 3 or 4 days. It is starting to be semi-healed now, but itchy.
I was using that scraper to get that fxcking pattern off the K2 Plus build plate. I said it was hard to get their zig-zag design off. Take the one from the X1C and double it in size. I guess I should turn it off before hitting print. I am just amazed how good the H2S is without ever having printed a calibration zigzag thingy. I think that is turned off by default for that printer.
So probably depends on the filament. The basic PLA has never given me any issues. Even some of the pet g did pretty good straight out of the box. But I ordered some of the new Pure PLA and it caused all sorts of problems when I tried to print some stuff. Even after running it through a dry cycle.
At first just lots of stringing but on my second print, I got a big ball of goo which I ended up having a remove the hot end and clean it up. Pause the PLA was stuck in the motor and I have to disassemble the tubes to pull it out.
Always need to keep in mind that “straight out of the box” filament can have pretty much any moisture content you can imagine.
The sealed bags only slow water uptake. The desiccant in there is to scavenge water that does get in but filament moisture content depends on the environment and conditions the spool in bag has seen since it was manufactured, during shipping, and storage.
If not drying new filament, each new spool is a gamble on moisture content.
