The filament selection is really starting to get on my NERVES! I don’t understand the sync settings and how they work. Here is a typical example of what I go through. I built a model and I set the filament for the object, in this case PLA Matte Black which is loaded in the AMS HT, I also have 1 AMS 2 Pro which has PLA Basic Black in slot 1, Slot 2 is empty, Slot 3 is PLA Basic White, Slot 4 is PLA Basic Orange. Under project filaments it lists 1 - PLA Matte Black, 2 PLA Basic White, 3 PLA Basic Orange, 4 PETH HF Gray (not even loaded but still shows up when I sync), 5 PLA Basic Black. Then I slice the file and the slicing results just says “Main 1 PLA” with a black box. Is that Basic or Matte, who knows? Makes no freaking sense! Then I hit send and it says PLA / A1 / Left Nozzle. Well PLA / A1 is NOT PLA Matte its PLA Basic so if I hit send it will print with the wrong filament. It the filament in the project is set to PLA Matte Black why after syncing does it change it to PLA Basic Black? I have a filament track switch on so it can print from either the AMS HT or the AMS 2 Pro. Why does this have to be so confusing? Why when I sync does PETG even show up when it isn’t loaded anywhere? Why because when I built the model it was somewhere in the AMS even though it wasn’t used in the project? It’s even more confusing when I load a 3MF off of MakerWorld. I get all the filament that was in their AMS along with what’s in mine. This is so insane and me being colorblind I can’t even count the number of times it has printed with the wrong color. Then sometimes it will change all the colors based on what I have loaded instead of leaving them the same and let me load the correct filament into the AMS. Then I have to go back and repaint the entire project. This is the worst setup I can imagine. This is nuts! I’ve been using this for over a year and I still can’t figure out how this is supposed to work. There is no rhyme or reason to the numbering, why can’t it tell you which slot has what instead of random numbers. If PLA Basic Black is in Slot 1 list it as #1 not #8. Ridiculous! AND WHY LIST ALL THE FILAMENTS THE PERSON HAD IN THEIR AMS’s IF THEY AREN’T USED IN THE PROJECT! THIS IS INSANE!
Personally I never sync the filaments (only make sure they’re assigned properly when sending the print). Here’s another recent thread questioning the utility of the sync dialog: Who else just press OK in the sync filaments screen?

I share similar frustrations.
Ran into a similar issue you mentioned with the wrong filament being used. I noticed when the same filament type and color are loaded in both nozzles on my H2D ( left is using external spool holder, right is AMS) it seems to get confused and tries to use the filament from my ext spool holder, even though I sliced it with the filament selected from my AMS. If I change the color to something else from the AMS config page or slice using “filament savings”, it works and uses the correct filament.
I gave up on sync a while ago. Never seems to work right.
I had similar problem and found u-tube to have helpful videos the taught me how to properly assign colors. I have two setups, my H2D has 4 AMS 2’s and I recently added an AMS2 to my X1C. Don’t get discouraged. Start small. Print 2 colors, then when get the hang of it you will be printing multi-color in no time!
I also feel your pain.
It’s almost like it’s too complicated and when it syncs, it throws everything off.
I think its because the filaments on the left drop down not only act as what’s in the AMS units, but also what the model material should be. I think it should be completely separate.

I read about Matte and Basic issues but in such a birds nest of words I couldn’t even begin to understand why you are confused (possibly angry).

Yeah… drives me nuts. Too much time being spent playing coloring book.. Drives me nuts to do coloring in MakerLab then it is all out of whack when pushed to studio
