My current setup is AMS Pro => single input buffer => P1S. I’m about to start printing PA6-GF, and I have a dedicated dryer and single-spool dry box for it [*] – I hypothesize it will do a better job of keeping the filament dry rather than moving it to one of the four AMS Pro slots.
So how do I “downgrade” from the AMS Pro to a single external spool?
- Do I connect the PTFE tube to the input of the buffer, or directly to the input to the printer?
- Do I need to reconfigure the printer setup in Bambu Studio (I suspect yes), if so, how?
Any other tips are welcome!
[*] I have a PolyDryer and PolyDryer Box. As per the recommendations, I’m running an 18 hour dry cycle on the “Level 3” setting. The hygrometer has stabilized at 10% RH which anecdotally seems plenty good. And the design of the PolyDryer means I can continue to run the dryer during printing – seems like a win for PA6.
When printing from an external spool holder, you can’t feed into the filament buffer. Instead, you have to feed it directly into the nozzle. I suggest adding a 4in1 adapter (less than 10 bucks in bambu store). You connect the 4in1 output to the nozzle, the buffer to one input and a new ptfe tube from your drybox to a second input.
Now on the printer, you can select external spool holder and load filament. In BambuStudio you have to disable “use AMS”.
Perfect - thanks. I’ll order the 4-input buffer, but until it arrives, I’ll feed the drybox directly into the printer.
Print one of the many y splitters from MW. There are version that don’t need fittings ie PC4-M10.
There’s no reason on earth to disable the AMS. You just load the external filament and on the printer you edit the external filament and tell the printer what it is.
In the slicer, you just need to set the part filament to whatever the external filament is.
In the print dialogue, you have to turn of the option “use AMS”. It won’t show you the external spool as an available filament source if you don’t.
