So I got the H2C few days go. I’ve been using a P1P (upgraded to P1S) for few years and a cheap Anycubic bed slinger before Bambu came into the scene.
Here are my reasons for upgrading to the H2C in particular:
- Multi-color printing without purge waste (the amount of waste with P1x meant I largely ignored multi-color prints unless they were separate pieces).
- Allowing to print multi-material using separate nozzles.
- All the advanced features that comes with the H2 series (that I missed by not getting the X1 Carbon ) such as automatic flow calibration, AI detections, better camera, etc.
- Larger print plate.
So this made me think…. how necessary is the dual nozzle feature on the H2C really? I mean sure it makes prints somewhat faster and adds one extra color (for example 8H on both nozzles vs 10H on Vortek-only for a dual-tone print ) but that comes at the cost of a bulkier toolhead, higher price due to increase parts required/complexity, smaller build plate area and other trade-offs.
Maybe there is a place for a H2C variant without the left nozzle? As far as I understand the left nozzle is more limited than the induction hotends since it should not be used with flexible filaments (so losing the left nozzle doesn’t result in any real loss of functionality). Maybe there is a market for a “single” nozzle H2C ….just some thoughts

Yes, I guess there is still a valid use case that allows one to use abrasive/brittle materials (that are not AMS-friendly) like PET-CF, PETG-CF, etc. on the left nozzle while still having AMS connected on the right nozzle. Not sure why I didn’t think of that lol. 
It’s not even that bad with those filaments in the AMS 2/HT and the hardened steel nozzles in my expereience. I haven’t seen any noticeable wear and have just changed the tubes in the first AMS 2 because I decided to check the hub and feeders for wear - none. The tubes weren’t even close to failing. I think its lots of filament changes that will wear things out though, long/big prints with them probably isnt going to be bad, and having that second nozzle means less changes.
A two color print or supports print will always be faster if you can keep the little used filament parked at the head. Filament track switch filament parking will be interesting to see how well it works to cut down feed times with multiple AMSs (more than 2).
I have the H2D and I can tell you that having 2 high performance extruders is soo much faster. I have two ams on it and the amount of time it has reduced is just amazing. I cannot imagine that the H2C is slower. Imagine if both nozzles have tool changers?
There were many compromises I had to make when doing multi-filament printing with my X1C. The amount of filament waste could be substantial. Prints with changes on each layer were costly in terms of time as well as waste. I had to design to minimize how much switching a print would require.
The H2C makes all that go away. I don’t think I’ve run a single one-filament print with mine since I got it (with the exception of the new-out-of-box mandatory benchy test). One of the first things I printed was a poop bucket. Six months in to it, there’s barely an inch of waste in it. I basically don’t care if there’s a filament swap on each layer. And if I’m printing supports, the second nozzle makes that a no-problem, too.
If I’d still been running my X1C with the prints I’ve done recently, I’d have emptied the bucket many times.
