I’ve started getting these weird artifacts on the edge of this print. This wasn’t an issue before (I’ve printed over 30 of these in the past) and I can’t quite get what’s happening. I’ve rerun all the print calibration, dried the filament, tried different print heads (worked once when I switched from right to left print head but then started doing that there too) did flow dynamics calibration, reduced speed down to 50m/s everywhere. Rotated the part in various orientations (it always happens on the far corner away from the left side fan).
Happens if I print 1 or 4 of these, with or without other parts. The artifact happens with other prints I’ve tried since as well, always in corners. I’ve run out of things to try
Thanks for the reply. This is PLA Matte. Ambient temps are higher than when I was first printing this so that’s quite possible. I have found a way to get this to work tho.
After looking at what was happening, it seemed like there was a tad too much material being deposited on the layer that was getting pushed out on further passes of the extruder head. I was using inner/outer which moved the material outward causing the bumps. Switching to outer/inner solved parts of this problem but I was still getting a bunch of artifacts / material clumping outwards. The thin walls made me think that maybe I should change line width to more exactly fit the walls. My walls are 1.5mm wide so I put a line width of 0.3 to get 5 even lines per layer. That plus the outer/inner change seems to have fixed the problem.
I’ve only printed a few copies of this so far but it’s been working well. The full suite of calibration seems to have also increased the overall print quality a smidge.
That being said, your ambient temp thought may be the real answer behind why this used to work fine as is and no longer does since it would always happen to the edge far away from the fan (altho when putting both at the same distance, I would get smaller artifacts on both sides so can’t know for sure.
