Edit generic specs?

I’m having trouble with jams during prints. I just got my printer last week, and it has worked flawlessly until I started printing with two colors. It gets jammed when loading a certain filament. The way I got it unclogged was to stop the print and manually up the temperature to 250. It flows out just like it should at that temp. I have it listed as “generic PLA”, so the printer heats the extruder to 220F automatically and won’t let me change the temperature setting. Is there a way to manually do that? It’s very frustrating when your print is 90% done and then you have to cancel it because of this. Thanks!!!

In the filament settings, you may need to edit the MAX Temperature for both filaments. That temp needs to be below the temperature of the lowest melting filaments Max temp and above the temperature of the higher melting filaments Min temp. As mentioned, for both filaments. Keep a safety distance of 5-10°.

Seeing as you already experienced clog’s, it may be a good idea to do a cold pull.

It’s Sunlu PLA from Amazon. It prints by itself at 220 just fine, but for whatever reason, when you switch back and forth between Bambu PLA and Sunlu in my printer, it gets jammed when switched to Sunlu at 220 degrees. To get it to unjam, I cancel the print and then manually turn the temperature to 250 and load it- it quickly melts the obstruction and goes back to normal.

That’s weird as Bambu purges the filament at a higher temp to switch between filaments…then lowers to the preset printing temp.

That’s exactly what it does with just one color, but when it switches filaments, it doesn’t do that. It stays at 220 when it does the switch/purge. Is there somewhere I can change that setting? Maybe I accidentally changed the setting.

When changing filament, even when pausing, the printer should purge when complete and also purge just after press play button to unpause.

I figured it out. The filament has been exposed to too much humidity. I started printing single color and the prints were stringy and clumpy. It got to the point that it didn’t work at all, so I threw it away. I’m now printing the “Ultimate Filament Spool Enclosure for AMS Lite” with some newer filament. Hopefully that will fix the problem. All of my 4 spools of filament have been exposed to the air for over 2 weeks. I guess that’s too long for Sunlu PLA generic filament.

You need to buy a filament dryer, no reason to throw filament away.

Just to add my voice to @lion7718 : No need to throw away filament! Just get a dryer. And use the heat bed of your printer to dry your first spools rather than chucking them.
A different enclosure may help to keep filament dry for longer. But it will not do anything at all to remove moisture from filament. And filament is often soaked fresh from the bag.

Can you dry old filament? So once it starts clumping and what not, can I pull that spool and put it in a dryer?

Yes. If only moisture is the problem (99% of cases), you can just dry it. Type “Bambu wiki filamt drying recommendations” into Google to get some temps and durations.
