Enhanced Cooling Fan

So Bambu has released the enhanced part cooling fan as a standalone add:

I own an H2D, and this upgrade appears to just be plug and play. The question I have is, what use case would this serve me? Does this really impact anything with our current part cooling fan system? Did anyone with an H2D buy this,and if so, what was your use case? I’m just trying to determine if it’s worth buying. I print primarily in PLA/PETG and occasionally with ABS/ASA. Just trying to understand the use case of this fan “upgrade” for the H2D.

I did a search and didn’t find anything relevant so pardon me if it seems like an obvious answer, I’m still fairly new to 3D printing (I bought this as my first printer back in May) and I’m still learning.

This cooling Fan is part of the Pro Series H2D and get the Temps 3 degree down on the Hotend if i get it right!

I ordered an H2D also this Cooler, i realy was looking to the H2D Pro series but the only big step between this Printers is now the Ethernet Port and the Busines Softwarepackage!

I got The extra Cooler and the Visionencoder now only left the Thungsten Hotends but you need to wait for 1. Quarter off 2026 to get the right Firmware for The Hotend as well for the Cooler upgrade! to get it work right!

For the Thungsten HF Hotend you could use the Hardened HF steall Profile to use it, or make youre own Profile for that may be it works also this way till next Firmwareupdate

Hey KMiller,

use case for this cooling upgrade is if you’re running materials on long prints with nozzle temps near the upper limit, and the chamber heat is also upper limit.

For lower temp materials like PLA and PETG, even for intermediate temp stuff like ABS/ASA, there won’t really be any benefit.

Is that the same fan that comes with the H2D Pro?

When I received my H2D I found it a bit strange that the heat break is neither temperature controlled nor cooled.
That’s for my Prusa MK4S (not even closed chamber) a standard feature where the heat break temperature can be set and a closed-loop controller keeps the temperature at the set value.

Now, with the Bambu there is no temperature sensor for the heat break from what I can see.
So I guess this will be some “stupid” (in terms of not closed-loop controlled) fan blowing at the heat sinks of the heat break based on the environment conditions. Is that a correct guess? Can anyone with H2D Pro comment?

Will this work for an H2S as well?

afaik tells the bambu Wiki so, it‘s related to H2D Series and not Pro alone

I’m thinking about this fan as well. To me, it seems maybe I don’t need to take it off when changing nozzles. I feel I always need to take the current cover off to change nozzles. yeah, I’m a bit lazy.

Just plugged this into my h2d, the software identified it. Fingers crossed it won’t need the q1 firmware to spin some air on the nozzle.

This is not what the documentation states. It actually only activates when a material has a softening temperature of under 50c.

Fan Activation Logic

The toolhead enhanced cooling fan cannot be directly turned on/off from the printer’s screen UI. Whether the fan turns on is automatically determined by the Softening temperature of the filament(s) used for the current print (default threshold: 50 °C):

  • If any filament used has a softening temperature ≤ 50 °C (e.g., low-temperature materials such as PLA/TPU/PVA), the system considers additional cooling necessary around the extruder drive gears and hotend heatbreak, and the fan will run at full speed.
  • If all filaments used have a softening temperature > 50 °C, the system considers no additional cooling necessary, and the fan will remain off.

Hope using one of these takes the pressure off the built in toolhead fan, which doesn’t appear up to the job (please don’t make me swap it again!)

this. We need it for H2S. Fan system is far below H2D/H2C.

By the way, they say the support is not active yet, but my H2D detects the fan, so they have probably already enabled that support in their beta version.

At least you didn’t have the Eddy sensors glued in place. :wink:
It’s a fairly quick swap, but for the average user it’s definitely not a pleasant task.

They replaced the TH board, but I still had to pay for the Eddy sensors because they insisted those are consumables that need to be replaced every now and then. Slightly ironic, given that they were literally glued to the board instead of being secured with tape, as the manual says they should be. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ouch! - If it makes you feel any better, one of the tiny lift up connectors broke off on my TH board (possibly/probably me being heavy handed) - finding and trying to fit that back in after wasn’t much fun :slight_smile:

Had to use a tiny vacuum I have to hoover up around the printer and sort through the bits to find it :joy: - wasn’t my finest hour.

Then you also had to pull the buffer and perform the sacred “dismantle the whole printer” dance. :wink:
I’m just hoping this overpriced “enhanced” fan will act as a bodyguard and keep that fragile hotend cooling fan alive a bit longer. :sweat_smile:
