Error: Extruder motor is overloaded, but it isn't

Hello,

I know, there are several other threads around addressing this error, but they don’t seem to fit my observing:
The left extruder stops working with this error from time to time. It happened with PLA and ABS so far. BUT: in 95% of the cases I can just say the problem is solved and it will print as nothing happened. In the other cases, pulling the filament out, cutting of the tip and putting it back in might resolve the problem.

With printing ABS I also observes, that warping might cause the problem. So basically, the part warps upwards and blocks the nozzle. Those are also the cases where I don’t have to do anything physically at the printer.

Currently, I’m printing a PLA-like material with absolutely no warping, and as described, either clicking the problem is solved, or clipping the tip of the filament and reinserting it, will solve it.

Has anybody similar problems or knows what to do? It’s really annoying, when a 12h print started before going to bed stops after 1h because of things like this.

Make sure there are no loose filament pieces in the extruder that are causing the issue. If there are none, here are a few things you can try:

  1. Raise the chamber temp for ABS/ASA to 65c, the max to prevent warping.
  2. Use nano polymer adhesive to prevent the items from warping and coming off the bed.
  3. Print a covers for the poop chute and belt tension holes to avoid cold air being sucked in.
  4. Sometimes due to the viscosity of the material you can get the “extruder overloaded” error as its tough to push it through the hot end. Try to raise the printing temp by 5-10c.
