Essential question ;-)

What’s with all the listings using “Essential” in the title?

It feels like “Essential” is being slapped onto every product name lately — to the point where the word loses all meaning.

Just look at these examples:

  • Essential Drawing Kit
  • Shower Essentials Space
  • Essential Drawing Organiser
  • A1 Mini Front Box for Essential
  • Essential Model for Workers

And so on…

I get it when it’s something like Essential Oil Rack — that actually refers to the product type. But in most of these cases, “essential” adds nothing. It’s just filler. If everything is “essential,” then nothing is.

I know platforms like MakerWorld sometimes run competitions for things like essential travel items, but that doesn’t mean every submission should have “essential” in the name. Surely the tag or category is enough? Or is there a bit of leeway there and this is just how people try to get more visibility?

Would love to hear what others think — is this just me?

What ever happened to “Gluten free”, “Organic”, and “no trans fats”? I am even surprised someone hasn’t tried running something along the lines of “you won’t believe what happens on layer 15!”.

Actually, ignore that. I think I will start using them for my posts. Now with 20% more tessellated triangles!

Just report models for violating the guidelines

  1. Do not upload misinformation such as:

Exaggeration of model functionalities
Using misleading phrases such as “Best, Top, Official” in model or print listing

Clearly falls within this.

But what if I believe my design is the Best Amazing Ultimate Official Essential model and only available for free download on MW for 48 hours. Can’t I let users know?
