Estimating starting Dynamic Flow & PA with unknown filament

When working with an entirely unknown filament, it can be tricky to choose good starting points for both Dynamic Flow and Pressure Advance before running calibration.

For example, I’ve had a filament where Bambu Lab’s profile for the same material and color suggested a starting Dynamic Flow of 0.98 and PA of 0.20. In reality, the correct values for this batch turned out to be 0.1855 and 0.081 respectively.
If you run a Pass 1 and Pass 2 test for Dynamic Flow while the PA is way off, the incorrect PA can affect extrusion behavior enough that you miss the optimal flow value from the start.

So — what are your tips and tricks for making a qualified initial guess in these cases?
Unfortunately, going to the manufacturer rarely helps, since they usually only provide MVS and some other basic specs, but not Dynamic Flow or PA values.

How do you approach it?
