Exclusive model removed and points deleted

Hello friends!

First of all, i absolutely love Bambu lab printers and Makerworld, but now i’m a little confused and disappointed.

So i designed an infinity cube, actually 2 versions of it.
1st version is just 1 part that you clone 2 times and then you assemble it with friction fit tenons and you end up with illusion/infinity cube (No supports).

2nd version is a single piece infinity cube that is printed without supports because of the design and orientarion. Replaced round part with diagonal for increased bed adhesion( neccesary because the whole print is basically an overhang and also provides a flat stand to set the cube at diagonally.
Took me days of non stop printing, adjusting slicer settings and design changes to get it to print 100% perfectly every single time.

Today, for my surprise, i noticed that both models have been removed from the exlusive model program, for the lack of originality and points have been deleted. Apparently someone reported my models.

Am i the bad guy? Did i misunderstood the rules? What did i miss? What should i have done to make it not lack originality ?.

I recommend that you read my recent post: Questions and Contradictions: Navigating the Exclusive Program

Hopefully this doesn’t come off as being a jerk, I’m seriously just answering your question. Both your cubes were uploaded within the last 4 days and the “infinity/illusion” cubes have been uploaded as far back as 2023. I’m guessing it was probably one of the other cube uploaders who reported you for not being original.

Definetly not a jerk. Someone actually commented that my model should not be exclusive and posted a link to the first one. I had a look at it and it’s a 3d file but really has nothing to do with 3D printing, almost like he took one of the 3D files that is meant for metal workers that make the infinity cubes out of metal. I had not seen the rest thought, so thank you for showing me those.

So i guess regardless how effortless and non optimized your model is, as long as you uploaded it before the others, then the rest just can’t have their models as exlusive.

I think I saw that one. One of the top reviews someone actually posted a metal one on a forklift like they had 3D printed it lol.

About the exclusive part Makerworld has been all over the place with enforcement and it mostly seems to just be based on who reports what first.

i printed this design quite a long time ago, it’s on printables for a long time already, so doesn’t fall on the exclusive criteria

edit/ now i see that it has a bit of a different geometry than the one i printed, but still very close to the original one, which did allow for remixes under the CC license, but when that happens the license needs to remain the same

I think this part is going to be the real problem in 2025.

The subjectiveness of what counts as “we have enough, your is excluded no matter the differences”.

The “subjectiveness” being the issue. They keep changing the rules and do not clearly define things. Then, for :poop:s and giggles they decide to change the rules, don’t tell anyone and steal 125% of the points.

Without clear guidance, designers are left to guess and being on the wrong side can be expensive.

I don’t know if MakerWorld are being purposely obtuse or simply ignorant.

  • Do we have too many wheel?
  • Apparently we have too many filament clips, so, someone nails a perfect design, yet, the less well-designed ones got in first and they claim the exclusive spot. I am not blaming the first ones, just the idiotic ill thought out rules.

the first to market is a real thing, in a whole bunch of areas, even though in principle i can agree with you that it’s restrictive, it’s the nature of the program, i also don’t understand why people are so focused on the program, i get it getting some real $ is nice, but it’s also nice to be able to share across platforms, which can become even more beneficial, in case you have people looking for commercial use

Of course it is, that wasn’t my point.

See.

This…

…and this were the salient points.

You selected the whole thing, but, took one part and made it about that, it was the totality.

Of course first to market is a thing, yet so is second to market, Apple has made a business out of being second to market and a very profitable one.

My issue here is MW deciding “second to market” can’t be considered worthwhile even if it is better.

I guess it depends on how they define original. That design was used for Silicon Graphics’ logo from 1982 to 1999. HP bought them out after bankruptcy but no idea of the fate of the logo. They had a giant sculpture of it at their headquarters in California. It was a great logo and SGI had some amazing graphics workstations. The SG Iris was pure science fiction at the time.

You make it sound like it cannot be published, it can, just not as exclusive

The entire topic revolves around Exclusive.

It is the first word in the Post title.

No one suggested MW removed the models from MW itself.

Yes, and again if you don’t agree with how exclusive is setup just don’t use it, what you say is you want it to adapt to what you want, and that’s not realistic, because I can disagree and then it needs to adapt to how I want and on and on - there are criteria and you either agree to them or you don’t and act accordingly

Edit/ and I can give a personal example, initially I signed up for that creator program incentives, however after really paying attention to the terms I ended up seeing that I didn’t agree with them, so I asked makerworld to withdraw me from the program and they did, it is what it is

Your belief is to not use something rather than suggest improvements?

MW purports to want us to suggest how they can improve, however lacking in reality that actually is, sometimes they listen.

When you upload a print profile targeted at the P or X series printer, it will now make it compatible with the A1 mini printer if the model will fit and all the other printers.

That was my suggestion, I explained how to achieve it, they did the work, now this works automatically.

I did that, I opened my mouth, made a suggestion, and changes were made.

Wanting things to improve isn’t wrong, telling people to not want changes is strange.

If you do nit want change, excellent, you do you, but, if I see something wrong, I will shout about it. If no one listens, so be it, but, sometimes they do.

I joined the Exclusive program because i exclusively upload to makerworld, so it made sense.

I do wood and metalworking and infinity cube table legs are very popular, so that’s where i got the idea.
I just didin’t know that i had to do research over internet and makerworld using correct key words to see if someone has ever made one lol. But i do know now and will think twice if i bother with exclusive models again.

Atleast we got my main questions answered and explained, so thank you for that.

I do have a question regarding points.
Instead of completely removing the points, shouldn’t they at very least convert the earned exclusive points to regular points?

This is the part that I think makerworld really is dropping the ball, they should only remove the “extra” points and leave the regular ones, not take everything. I think you can and should raise a ticket for the to address this, and reinstate the regular points

This is off topic, and I apologize. However I have to say: Thank god for that suggestion! It used to be a real pain.

Suspicious account, he marked all his models as exclusive, when they are all models taken from other sites! Makerworld should verify these obvious things

MakerWorld moderation is reactive, not pro-active. Unfortunately they rely on users to report such cases. Have you reported the violations? (if you say the models are taken from other sites that’s not only exclusive model program violation, but also a copyright violation)
