I have a new H2S that has been super finicky to setup and get printing correctly. Thanks to this forum, I have fixed all the issues except one…the external filament port throwing the error message, “Check if the external filament spool or filament is stuck”. See the attached picture for the error message on the screen.
I know it is not stuck because I can simply push the filament into the extruder after getting this message and all is good and the printer prints happily for a couple minutes until I receive that exact same error again. The ptfe tube is pushed all the way to the end and I can see it inside the “window” in the printer. I have read a ton of posts on the internet that this is a known issue with the H2S using 3kg spools on the external filament port. Evidently, the motor on the extruder just can’t handle a 3kg spool. The only 2 solutions that I have found in my research is to buy a filament re-winder and turn the 3kg spool into 3 seperate 1kg spools to use in the AMS. The other solution is to shorten up the ptfe tube as much as possible. Buying a spool re-winder defeats the whole purpose of having a 3kg spool. I did try to shorten the ptfe tube entering the rear of the H2S and I got it down to about 6 inches. See the attached picture. For reference, I am using the Polymaker Eidtion II spool holder because it is the only one I could find that is meant for a 3kg spool without having the dryer functionality. I don’t need a dryer because I live in a very dry climate.
I have a couple X1C’s that happily print from the Polymaker Edition II with 3kg spools for 24+ hours per print without any issue at all, but my new H2S throws in the white flag every few minutes.
Is there anything anyone can recommend I do? Is there some code I can run on the H2S that beefs up the extruder motor? Is there another 3kg spool box that would be smoother or better?
