I guess it’s been six weeks or so, I apparently did something, or maybe I got an update from BBL. Anyhow, ever since then, when I try to print something from BBL Studio, I get this little icon while my usual SEND button is grayed out. So I have to click on this little icon which then leads me to yet another icon to click on before I can finally click on SEND. BBL AI support says “it’s a software issue and nothing can be done about it.” Obviously it’s not a big thing, but if any of you humans know how to put things back like they were, I’d appreciate it. And no, I don’t have an AMS if that has anything to do with it.
On the pad of your device [not slicer], under Filament, what does it believe that it has loaded up? Not PLA?
Hmm? I hope I’m following you. I looked on the Handy App, selected my P1S (My A1 on the same network doesn’t give this strange icon). In the “Filament” section of the app, it shows a circle (green outline, white inside) and “Ext” above the circle and a question mark below the circle. I hope that answers your question.
Oh, sorry, the P series little retro LCD pad doesn’t have that info, all the rest of them do.
I was meaning to look at this screen for example:
Not sure how to manage it with the app, I don’t use it, but if this were the A1, I’d try to assign the filament that you are using to the machine somehow.
Okay, you may not think so, but I think you’ve headed me in the right direction. Being as how BBL chose to put a 1990s LED on the P1S, I’ll probably find the fix on the Handy App on my phone. Thanks
For any of you experiencing this problem, I still haven’t found the fix. Not going to worry about.
I’m trying to understand the issue. The only time I see that is when the filament map does not match what you have in the AMS. IE you need to print PLA, the download has generic or PETG in it’s first slot, so if you haven’t overwritten your AMS map over the dowbloads, it is asking where your pla is. That’s why the click. At least that’s why it happens when I forget to overwrite the map that’s in the download.
I see it on Handy if I first printed it in black pla but I don’t have any black loaded at that time. Handy is asking which slot I currently have PLA in, black or not.
Well, as I said, I don’t have an AMS. And if it’s asking me a question about my filament selection, I’m not understanding how to provide the answer. As I said before, I always select my filament in Studio before slicing. Everything works fine. It just makes me jump through a couple of extra hoops. Maybe I should uninstall and reinstall Studio. Something tells me that won’t change anything.
It also happens when you run from an external spool. Although you selected PLA in the printer and synced that to BS, it know on which nozzle it is, but always asks to select it when you want to print.
It’s probably because that print profile is set for pla, and you don’t have pla loaded into the printer information. So if you click on it it should show the options of your filament. Sometimes it will let you continue with the wrong type of filament and sometimes not.
Under the device tab tell the printer what you have loaded on the external holder.
From there, if the profile your printing has whatever kind (pla etc) is on the ext spool is it should show that when you hit print.
If not you will have to tell studio what you have on the ext (and should anyway) by syncing the ext with studio. It will then assume you want to use whatever you say (IN THE DEVICE tab) and default to it.
Ext can be a little tricky sometimes, BS can be stubborn showing what it is. Let’s say you always print with PLA. Just tell the slicer that’s what is in slot and it will default to PLA everytime you load a pla print. I’d only worry about overwriting it if you load PETG or something different.
Want to add that whatever you put or change on the filament type inside the slicer and not the device tab doesn’t tell the printer what to use. The slicer sees only what you have set in the device tab.
Here my steps to reproduce the selection issue:
- Edit material of external spool (ie. BBL PLA Black) on the printer.
- Load the filament for that nozzle
- Go into BS and sync filament (the manual selected BBL PLA Black is shown as a filament
- Assign the filament to your model
- Slice and BS selects the correct nozzle based material
- After you hit Print, BS asks me to select the external spool before I can continue.
The only reason I can imagine is that BS wants a confirmation that the filament is loaded in the printer.
But when I remember correctly I didn’t ask me that a long time ago on an earlier version firmware and BS.
Additional note: on that nozzle with external spool is also an AMS HT connected.
Edit: In this case I hadn’t synced the filament after I loaded the ext. My bad. That’s why I was able to reproduce it.
I stand corrected and apologize for giving you a wrong answer. While what I said is true for the AMS it is not true for the external holder.
Yeah, I literally just did exactly what you did step by step and came to the same end. I have 6 slots and ext. Loaded ASA-CF and it asked me where it was after print.
You do remember correctly. There was an update awhile back that changed how the mapping went, you can overwrite it or just have BS match what’s in the AMS to the colors in the print. The ext changed then as well.
My guess is you are correct in it being a confirmation. The AMS-HT is connected with a data cord and doesn’t require a the extra confirmation.
I apologize again for giving you the wrong answer for your situation.
I realize now that I failed to make myself clear. And I do that best with pictures. The three pics below show what’s going on. Again-- it’s no big deal. I can live with it.
You made yourself perfectly clear. I think I didn’t.
You have to set the filament here first.
Like so
Color really doesn’t need to be set. You can change it to whatever as long as it’s the color and type on the spool that you want the print with. The machine couldn’t care less.
You then synchronize your loaded filament with the slicer. If you don’t do this it will default to the last type/color you did sync last. If it’s the same type (PLA) then no harm no foul. If it’s PLA and you’re using PETG, or you want to see the color within the slicer, then it must be sync’d. This is where the slicer and printer are on the same page.
If you don’t do this the slicer is going to behave at print as you’re seeing it behave. It will ask where the filament is that you want to use. If you didn’t sync the slicer only knows what you WANT to use, not WHERE it is. If you had sync’d the filament this won’t happen. It will show you where it is to be sure when you click print.
and it will show here
in this example, I clicked on it.
I realized you are using one color but I just woke up and have already done 4 screenshots. No coffee. I’m doing a 33hr print for my daughter so we’re going to just use what I have loaded. Hope it doesn’t confuse.
Here if you had an ams and wanted to change color you could.
In your case the printer doesn’t know you want green and where it’s at, doesn’t care. The slicer does so it’s asking you to tell it where it is because the printer says you don’t have any.
In a nutshell, set the type and color in the Device Tab
sync in the slicer and then it’ll be all better.
If you have any other questions, let me know or DM me. This post took a lot out of me so I hope you’re understanding.
