I’m a little frustrated because I’ve wasted time and filament and had misprints and print failures. Suddenly, the printer stops feeding filament, doesn’t notice, the extruder indicator continues to run and the printer prints ‘air’.
This happens to me with some types of PLA from other manufacturers and also with the rather expensive LAYWOO-D3 Wood Premium filament.
I analysed the cause. To do this, I removed the front cover, cleaned the extruder and reassembled it. Then I tried extruding without the plastic cover and it worked very, very well.
But when you put the cover back on, you notice that you have to push the levers of the extruder’s counter roller to the side to attach it, and then it can’t swing back against the extruder roller as far as it needs to for the critical filaments.
I took a photo here and the red arrow indicates what happens through the cover. This means that the extruder rollers are further apart because of the cover. The filament can then be stopped with little counter-pressure during extrusion. The indicator and extruder motor continue to work and do not notice the failure.
I am a little disappointed by this and am considering writing Bambulab support, even though I don’t really know if that will help me in any way.
But perhaps my post here will help others to reduce their frustration a little.
So this is no clogging, this is an extruder construction error.
I think post like this (A1 mini stops extruding mid print and will air print - #17 by LTZ) are about the exact same issue.
Did someone else solve this problem by themselve?
