Feature: Desactivate AMS by default when outside filament loaded

Hello, like the title shows this is a request for a small software change:

With the P1S, when the AMS is plugged but there is another filament loaded, if the option “Enable AMS” is ticked when launching a print, the printer will automatically assign the print to one of the AMS filament and unload the current one. This mean the user needs to come, retract the filament and plug the AMS PTFE tube fast enough to prevent the filament being “spilled” everywhere.

This is a minor issue but in those circumstances it would be much better to have the “Enable AMS” option off by default instead of on by default like now…

Not sure I understand what you are saying, you need to retract the external spool before you start the print.

The Use AMS is sticky, it should default to your last used state.

If you turned it off last time, next time it should be off.

If this is a feature request, firstly, you should add that as the second category.

Use the pencil near the title and choose a request based category.

I believe your request might be better understood if you use the correct terms.

If a printer has a filament loaded in the hot-end from the external spool, can the state of the “Use AMS” checkbox be unticked by default?

Remember, this will change the current way the system works and people are used to.

There may also be a different reason the printer has filament loaded. The printer may not be aware the hot end has filament in it, this could be a problem during the last print which is unrelated to external spool usage,

No, my objective is to print with the external spool. It is quite useful if you use special material while keeping PLA and PTEG in the AMS for more classic prints.

I am using the latest version of the bambu studio and it does not work this way for me. Every time i launch a new print the option is activated by default, no matter if i already used an external spool previously.

Good point, done.

True, that was a loose translation, done too

No, this is a systematic issue, every time the software was aware of the external filament loaded and its first action was to unload it. That makes the print stop before really beginning every time i forget to untick “Enable AMS”

You haven’t.

That one needs to have a request element to it.

Well, Curious, when i changed yesterday there was no error message so i thought it had worked. Now if i try again it shows an error:

It seems to request a secondary tag but i do not see any option to add it at that point.

You should be able to have this combination.

  • Bambu Lab Software > Bambu Studio
  • product-request

Only if i create a new subject. I do not have this option when modifying the current one. Either it is not possible or i don’t have a confidence level high enough on the forum. It might require an admin.

I think is your user level, you have only spent an hour on the forum in total.

If you are a Mac user there is a program called Keyboard Maestro that can work around this sort of issue.

I use it to make a few automatic overrides in Bambu Studio - including some of the previously non sticky print options and small object import prompts etc.

:ok_hand: To bad i don’t use mac but it may be good to know for others.

I posted a similar feature request for Bambu Studio yesterday. I did do a search before posting and I’m not sure why this post didn’t show up since it was created 1 day before my post. You can see my request here: Uncheck the AMS checkbox if external filament is loaded
