Feature Request: AMS 2 Pro Load Cell

My major issue with the AMS 2 Pro coming from an Octoprint environment is my inability to know precisely what filament quanitity I have left on a spool. I know that I can have autofill with another spool, but often I just want to know if a print can complete with a given spool. I know that I can manually weigh the spool.

Given how intelligent the AMS 2 Pro ecosystem is, it would be wonderful if the spool slots incorporated a load cell which can measure the weight of the loaded spool. With a calibration for the weight of an empty spool, this would enable precise knowledge of remaining filament. Given that a kitchen scale can be had retail for less than $10, the OEM load cell itself as a part is likely less than $2.

This would be far more accurate than the odometer approach for RFID spools, and also work for third party spools.

You would have to build a library of empty spool weights and hope that the manufacturers don’t change production types. Who maintains this library?

Bambu maintains it for their filaments.

Other vendors put the empty spool weight on their datasheets and users enter the weight manually.

No big deal.

If you say they all document it, then that is good enough.

If Bambu releases such a weighing system, so many people will be e-mailing filament makers asking for the weight, they will put it into their datasheets

Bambu could also make a feature where you put an empty spool into the AMS, then hit some ‘save empty spool weight’ button and you’re done with it. In cases when there is no info from manufacturer.
