I found someone selling prints of one of my CC-BY-NC models on ebay and they are using my exact photos. Ebay’s oh so intelligent AI says there’s no violation even though their policy states at the very least that using images from another website is a policy violation. Go figure.
Anyways, I am now watermarking all my images and uploading to my models which is a little bit of a pain but worth it for now. I don’t know if there’s any easy way to integrate the ability to add a watermark with username, time stamp or something during model upload. It would be nice!

Watermarks are so easy to bypass in the age of AI. 2 clicks and a few seconds later it’s gone. Sure, it might keep some not so tech savvy people away but not everyone.

Watermarks won’t stop a thief from stealing. There’s no need to even remove them. I’ve seen people posting photos of others with their watermarks and they don’t care at all. And people who look at these photos won’t care either, they just don’t know every designer to know that it was stolen.

As already mentioned, a watermark in the images makes no sense at all if it can be removed with a single click.
What does work and makes perfect sense, however, is to integrate your logo into the 3D object itself. Fraudsters never bother to edit a 3D object, why should they. That won’t stop them from simply copying or selling it, but the report process for you is just quicker.
It’s simply a matter of raising the bar so that they are too lazy to bother with it.

Retro has the right idea - embed something in the geometry (inner or visible). Pics are kinda assumed to be all fake now.
You can still scrub the geometry if you try, but the vast majority of these knuckledraggers wont.
