Feature Request: Print sequence enhancement

Currently with “Print Sequence” option we can choose from “By layer” or “By Object”.

“By object” is often very useful but it has one drawback. The risk of first layer failure. If you print “by layer” there is just one first layer, you can watch the print get started and then get on with your day.

With “By Object” there are multiple first layers, and thus in effect you are unable to observe each one, unless you are physically sat next to your machine. On Reddit several users say they use “By Object” less because of this.

I therefore propose an option that lays down the first layer like “By Layer”, before completing the rest of the layers “By Object”.

This will let you print “By Object” with the security and reliability of “By Layer”.

It’s not easy or a real solution, and I will probably oversimplify it, but I think you might be able to do it. You can take the slice “By Layer”, save that gcode file, then slice it “By Object” and save that gcode file. Now, open them both in some plain text edit software. Then, take the first layer of the by-layer gcode and add it to the front of the actual printing of the by-object gcode, and then delete all of the first layer code of each object so you don’t double print. I hope this helps for now!

Yes, that could work and it sounds quite ingenious!

But hopefully they add the feature as it would be real useful for convenience and not too much work - after all you’ve just showed them how to do it. :grinning:
