As tittled. Currently under the Household category, there is a Garden and an Office subcatgegory, but there isn’t a Home subcategory. If a Home category is too broad, divide it further into Kitchen, Bathroom, etc.
Hmmm… But there’s “Other House Models” which fits everything that isn’t decor and is house-stuff, right?
Household is home. Just do what @Johnny_Bit suggested and use the Other subcategory.
What we need is a “Secxual models” section (don’t now if the word is permitted
)
Put it in “Festives” if it’s once a year affair. “Garden” would fit for outdoorsy types. “Office” would probably be a problem for HR (which is silly, in ye olde times a lot of people who got married met at work). “Pets” would be for those with, how do you say it… “unique taste”? Obviously so-called real-life sculptures could fit the “Decor” category…
You Sir… you made my day
The current subcategories are not intuitive. Users looking for something useful at home (kitchen, bathroom), other than decor and festivities, wouldn’t have gone to ‘Other House Models’ by instinct. After all, this is a category for household, and there is even an Office subcategory, which is a stretch to fit under the household, unless it’s meant for home office only . What can be more “other” than office models under a household category?
Another way to avoid having practical models burried and hidden inside ‘Other House Models’ is to add a subcategory called Useful Models or Functional Models. However this can get into arguments about what is a useful or functional model and some may put decor models in it to get more exposure.
I would also like more sub categories under Household.
- Kitchen
- Bathroom
- Laundry
- Bedroom
I have definitely had to sift through other categories for models that would easily fall under one of these.
At least you looked through it. I can see the possibility that some new users see that MW only has garden and office listed and assume that MW doesn’t have useful models for any other parts of the house yet. They would then go to Printables and Cults which have them.
I made a similar request in June and @Makerworld agreed to look into it. Unfortunately nothing has happened yet.
Getting back to this.
The current subcategories under Household are not helping useful/fuctional household models. There is a subcat for decorative models, another for festivities, which are also mostly decorative models. But useful/functional models are lumped together with everying else into Other House Models. Useful models have a hard time attracting attention as is. They shouldn’t be buried deeper.
@Tanklet Can MW look into this. MW is the only platform I know of that makes it harder to find useful household models.
By the way, @Makerworld @Tanklet can you add a subcategory under Generative 3D Model? I have a model created with help of Image to 3D and there are all modeling tools listed under Generative 3D Model except this one
Weird thing is MW even made a contest for kitchen stuff a while back, and we’re still missing the kitchen sub-category. I agree wholeheartedly that there are better categories that could be used under household.
Here are what we have now. It’s not intuitive for casual users to know that they should look under Other House Models for useful/fuctional models in kitchen, bathroom, living room, etc.
I don’t mind Decor and Festivities having their own categories. Garden, Office and Pets having their own categories makes sense, too. But useful/fuctional models don’t deserve to be buried. The design of these models takes a lot of thoughts and time and should be encouraged. MW can add a Useful Model subcat, or add Kitchen, Bathroom, Living Room, Bed Room, etc, to help users narrowing down their browsing even further.
