Filament buffer not working?

I’m printing with two nozzles and the right nozzle is hooked up with an AMS Pro 2. The left nozzle with an external filament and manual feeding the filament. While printing I notice that the filament buffer of the rigt nozzle, the orange block move back and forwards. When it comes up to the left nozzle, the orange block does very minimal move to none. Is this normal? In the print result I dont see quality problem, but maybe this wear out faster in the print feeder head as it must work harder without the buffer?
Or does the left nozzle filament buffer works only when another AMS Pro or AMS HT will hooked up?

Are you referring to using the bypass? If you’re feeding through the standard left or right inlets, the buffer will always be engaged—whether you’re in AMS or manual mode. It’s normal for them to behave differently, and that variation is unrelated to whether you have an AMS attached. Buffer performance can vary with different filament types, since their very purpose is to maintain a reserve—hence the name.

Ok, thanks! The strange thing is when I used the same filament for the right or left inlet, the buffer still react different. The right inlet you can hear it’s working noise to push the filament through and the orange block moves very clearly. On the left almost not. Maybe it’s nothing to concern about it, lets see what it does in the future.

It looks like the two inlets take different routes to their respective tool heads, so the buffers might respond differently. I’ll double-check once my H2D arrives to be sure.

As far as I know, when the filament is manually connected, meaning without passing through an AMS, as is done, for example, with TPU, the buffer does not work. The filament is simply pulled by the extruder. I think I read this somewhere, but I could be wrong. In any case, I have also noticed that when I manually connect the filament, the buffer does not work.

This only applies when using the bypass; if you feed filament through either of the two standard inlets, it will pass through the buffer regardless of how it is supplied.

So you confirm that the buffer must always work even if I pass a filament from the external filament holder?

My buffer, the one connected directly to the left extruder, behaves exactly in the same way as you. At this point I do not know if it is a problem or if it is normal

I just ran some tests. I can confirm 100% that with an Ams connected both buffers work, if the buffer instead is connected directly to an external filament coil, it does not work

Thanks a lot for testing. Hopefully my AMS HT will come in soon and it will be connected to the left nozzle, so it should work fine as yours.
