Filament isn't cutting cleanly before switching filaments on multicolor prints

I bought a P2S + AMS less than a month ago, and trying to print my first multicolor print.

Two days ago I updated Bambu studio to the latest version (2.4) and sliced my model. After drying my eSun PLA+ filament for 8 hours, I started my print.

When switching colors, the printer threw me errors like “extruder motor overloaded” and “failed to pull back filament into AMS”.

After troubleshooting for a day, I think what is happening is when there is a color change, the filament that just printed isn’t being cut properly before retracting back into the AMS. This is because I see the ends of the retracted filament aren’t cut cleanly but are melted and stretched. This in turn causes further issues such as those ends breaking off and causing blocks in the filament buffer (failed to pull filament), and blockages in the extruder (extruder motor overloaded). I’ll attach images to this post.

I have tried changing filament cutter, even though I only have 70 hours of print total print time but that didn’t help. I’ve inspected the cutter lever itself as well but nothing is blocking it from or in the way of cutting through.

What leads me to think this is a cutter issue is because after each filament is printed, before it retracts it will cut the filament. If I manually push the lever to cut the filament before retraction back to the AMS happens, it helps somewhat. (I still get extruder motor overloaded sometimes).

Something to note is I have tried printing this exact same model before the latest Bambu Studio update. I did not encounter extruder motor issues, but encountered print quality issues which appeared to be resolved with the latest Bambu Studio update. So I am not sure whether my current issue is caused by hardware or software problems.

I’ve logged a support ticket to BambuLabs on this, but they will take some time to get back to me and I’d love to see if anyone has any insights or suggestions that might help my situation!

Yes, this is a result of a cutter issue. The P2S has a different cutter activation than the P1S. The Filament Cutter Stopper doesn’t see to be activating correctly.

I would put a new cutter in, and cut off the first part of filament when you first get it

I managed to resolve my issue. It was very silly (of me). It was the long retraction setting.
