I was looking around in the Bambu Handy app, and I came across the filament manager, (Devices › Filament › View All › Manage). I went to the trouble of putting in all my filaments and weights. I assume this is to be used with the AMS but it could come in handy for those who don’t have an AMS.
I think that it could be improved if when your loading/unloading filament from your printer, instead of having to edit the type and colour manually, we should be able to select from the filaments we have added in the filament manager.
Because we add the weight of a spool in the Material Manager, the system could estimate how much filament is left in the spool if the printer knows how much filament will be used with a certain print, although currently, the weight you input in the manager, is the total weight, the weight your brought it as, there should be another input to add how much filament is left, therefore allowing my idea to happen.

This may already be coming. I just installed the latest Bambu Studio beta and Filament Manager is now working inside Studio and syncing back to Bambu Handy.
My library showed close to 100 spools even though I never manually added them, and it is also showing weights. My guess is Bambu has already been tracking this from RFID reads and print usage, and the new manager is starting to expose that data.
Still early, but it looks like they are moving in this direction.
If they set it up so that it tells us when a spool is low or can tell us with in a meter when the spool will run out, or even if it can tell us that we will need a spool change halfway though a print….. That would be very cool.
I would like it if they added a function that would allow me to add a spool that’s just “Last Meter” so that i can get rid of my scrapd
Interesting to hear, unfortunately the Bambu Lab A1 does not have a RFID sensor (without AMS), But yes, it does seem like they have been tracking filament usage as I was doing some experimenting earlier.
Yes! That would be great, It would also be nice if a warning would appear, telling us that we wont have enough filament for this print, but you could select “print anyway”.
I am just confused why the manager does not have a function to add certain filament as “currently in use” and then simply subtract the grams you printed from the saved filaments that are chosen. You can already do that with external tools, you just have to upload the 3mf file for it to get the information how much gram was used. I am not sure why this isn’t already a function in the app, where it has immediate access to the information necessary… well maybe later, at least hopefully.
I am looking for a video of how it is intended to be used. I am seeing a first impression come up. I don’t care to waist my time trying to misuse and have bad expectations. It is a real feature. But … I want to start with reasonable expectation and plan. The pieces are there, and being collected by Bambu, is there a benefit to giving them more info?
It would be very complex to manage a lot of filament. I don’t know what it takes to give it the info it needs. The big problem is forms and Youtube are around for long past current. It is sometimes hard to pay attention when made, and how knowledgeable a user is about the topic.
I might be willing to put in a little extra time up front, if it saves overall. But it is so easy to define a system that just sucks more time than it is possible to save.
What I want out of it:
When printing it should warn me about more filament than on the current spool.
Suggest other spools
The ability to use 3rd party filament.
RFID compatible
Unopened filament
Reorder managment
Refill spool management
Labeling system
Multi color filaments
Compatible filaments (soft TPU, hard filaments…) that need special handling not in AMS.
Drying (complex, quickly out of date) could be useful for upcoming prints. Maybe a reminder, starts crossing into print manager software.
Other printers. What happens when a filament is used by something else, like some other printer.
Lost spools
I expect some of these features on implemented now. Some in the future. Some takes too much time to reap the benefit.
I see Bambu eco system could be good to stay within. RFID for example. But there are lots of good other brands that don’t have RFID. Big reason that Bambu has not opened the standard. Yes, it has been reverse engineered. Sometimes delivery and availably dictates out of network. Most of my orders are big enough to qualify for the bulk discount. The logistics of smaller orders is the same for small orders. So the price per item is much higher on small orders. Will Bambu start gouging?
Not saying my list of thing is what it should do.
I am looking for what it is supposed to do. Before I invest my time in defining my version of what make sense for me.
A problem with programs like BS is it can be used for print farms with lots of printers, hobbyist that keep one printer running with multiple AMS, or once a month print hobby. There is no right or wrong. How are they suggesting it is used?

Loving the new filament manager but has a long way to go for non Bambu Filament. If a spool doesn’t have a readable RFID then it would be great if the system could automatically remove the amount of filament used as calculated in Bambu Studio. Yes this wouldn’t be 100% accurate but would give you an idea of what is left on the spool. selecting the filament spool for non Bambu Filament needs to work a lot better and would improve filament manager within Bambu Studio. Both these issues above would help people with printers using manual feed Bambu filament.
Can someone explain to me if this integrates into the store somehow, because I think it would be useful to know what of my filaments ran out before making any purchase?
Even if that is not the case, it will be useful to get a list of filaments you are running low on or that you completely finished as a shopping list.
