Filament not reaching the tool head

The filament loads but just does not get all the way into the tool head. It does not get very close, it tries a few times, and then it decides that the filament is loaded when it is not. It will continue printing with nothing. I had a failed print yesterday and thought it was a clog from the silk but now I think this happened when it tried changing to another color. I lost another print today because it decided the filament was loaded and just continued printing nothing. I checked the tubing and it is fine, changed it about a month ago. Honestly not sure what to do and it has not given me any errors. I was able to get it to load normally and have a small print going right now to see if it works or if another issue comes up. Kind of annoying because I cannot trust my printer now.

Probably heat creep and the filament stuck in the top of the heatsink.
The cutter cuts, the filament retracts but it won’t make it into the hotened.

Okay I’m trying to decipher this,
Scenario 1:
so are you saying that during loading the filament does not reach the printer head at all so it retracts and forwards the filament again a few times and eventually does say it is loaded while the filament is still far away from the extruder?
In that case two possible issues combined, too much friction for the filament loading or issues with the buffer AND filament sensor issues since it should not show as loaded if the filament is still not at the extruder.

Scenario 2:
Same as 1 but on the final the filament makes it to the extruder and gets sensed by by the filament sensor there but fails to get extruded.
In that case friction and buffer issues, filament is normally loaded until the filament sensor then the ams hub pushes the filament forward until the buffer is under pretension then the extruder servo will start to feed the filament and system will monitor the buffer for movement to ensure the filament gets pulled in.

Scenario 1. If I can get it to load, it prints normal. I have 4k hours on it and this is my first major problem, I assumed it needed some new parts I just didn’t know where to start troubleshooting on this one. Suggestions on where to start or parts to replace? I went through all the tubing last night and made some adjustments but it didn’t really help.

In that case I recommend to remove and check the filament sensor, might be residue accumulation over time or something stuck inside.

Also check that the filament buffer is working correctly with the slider moving freely and the pre-tension spring seated well.

Some filament types have more friction than others and those with higher friction may need a re-routing of the tubing and/or repositioning of the ams unit(s) to ensure the least bends as well as directional changes of the filament to the printer in order to obtain the lowest friction and obtain reliable operation.
