This has just randomly started happening,
*UPDATE seems to have coincided with the new update to bambu studio !
bambu p1s with AMS ( no matter what AMS slot, this still happens
Bambu filament and accessories unless otherwise stated
both with PLA Matte and PETG HF
I will do my best to describe
all the print profiles and settings i have used previously and with success i am using now, all of the profiles are from makerworld
for some reason my prints the 1st few or initial layer is not sticking to the build plate. either the Smooth or textured PEI
i have washed both with dishwashing detergent and hot water only
like i have been doing for months, i have dried with a towel, air dried and used the heat bed to dry the water, no dice
I have been using a 0.4 hardened nozzle,along with the hardened gears have cleaned the nozzle and replaced the silicone sock, nope
i have just tried a 0.4 standard nozzle and still same issues
I did some searching and tried different 1st layer speeds ( with the PETG HF )
even a hotter bed and nozzle , nothign has worked
its as if the starting Z height is wrong or the bed is on the piss somehow
i have give all the ball/lead screws a good looking over in case debris is caught, but i cant find anything
When anyone has print issues that “just started happening” it’s a kneejerk reaction almost to say filament moisture - look into drying. Filament with too high moisture content doesn’t like to stick down, strings, you get zits all over models, interlayer adhesion goes bad, and can even get your extruder encased in plastic if the extruded filament curls and reattaches to the extruder. Depending on the moisture level involved and kind of filament, you may see some or very few of these. Or maybe all of them if it’s especially bad.
If you haven’t changed anything it’s something else that changed and it’s usually ambient humidity or a new printer (and new filament) where water starts getting picked up and prints are good at first and then go bad. It happens so often here it’s basically a trope.
Are you drying your filament? How? How’s your ambient humidity? How do you store your filament?
Water gets adsorbed to filament to different degrees depending on the material. These printers print fast so the feed rates are significant and there isn’t time for water to escape as the filament heats on its way into the extruder. The water gets trapped in molten filament, vaporizes, and expands causing a pressure spike in the extruder which causes uncontrolled burping out of hot filament. PLA is generally tolerant of moisture but it can get too wet. It can even arrive too wet even in plastic bags with desiccant from the manufacturer. PETG HF is especially sensitive to water and shows moisture effects very easily. It needs to be well dried before use.
Slowing the print speed can help but the cure is to dry the filament and keep it dry before use.
this was my 1st thought too, especially with the PETG, as it was a new roll
so i dried it for 8 or 9 hrs , at 65 deg same issues
the PLA is doing it on 4 different colours , and all of those rolls i have been using with no issues.
Im in Perth AUS , and nice mild temps currently, has not been humid or we for quite some time
i have been caught out with ambient temperature before,( only with the white PLA though ) i have learned to up my temps at night in winter , and seen alot of posts regarding this , there has not been a big enough change, it also is happening at night and during the day
the strange thing is , when the print works, the quality is very good and matches previous prints of that model
I am sorry to see you are experiencing first layer issues.
Have you tried re-calibrating the printer after the firmware update? This should ensure that all the calibration data is correct, and usually solves the problem.
funnily enough i have just done that after a fresh install of bambu from earlier this month (Bambu_Studio_win-v02.03.01.51)
I have also vacuumed out the chamber around all the ball/lead screws etc checking again for debris that might be stopping the Z axis from moving
have also dried my PLA for 8hrs at 65deg C
still no luck
here is this mornings failure , what i dont get is that the line that is done 1st at the front of the build plate sticks, nothing else does
Probably the best way to verify this suspicion is to revert to an older version of the BS (downgrade). If everything starts working again, then the problem is indeed somewhere in the BS. Otherwise, something else has changed somewhere …
Personally, I am interested in the result because I keep postponing the installation of the new BS version… out of habit… I always wait to see if everything will be OK… pretty often is not and some waiting makes sense
I actually did revert back last night with no change. even after a calibration.
as well as drying pla matte.
I have installed the new Version this morning . will do a calibration and test print again.
I’m only new. but still baffling to what is going on.
yes if you read my post this is what I have been doing. it’s happening on both smooth pei ( using the bambu glue stick ) as well as texture pei plate.
I actually scrubbed it very well this morning with a new cloth. still the same results
Brand new at this…1st print was good… the next 6 prints all lifted on the leading edge of the aerofoil section i’m trying to print…I have washed the heat bed wit 2 different types of detergent to negate the idea of moisturiser idea, air dried and only handled by edges…Don’t believe the build plate is all that magical… I’ve increased the temp My next question is
try using glue, get liquid glue (because that’s what has worked for me) and spread it evenly wherever you print. The glue is easy to clean and works like a charm. The pei plate might be worn, or the filament might be a bit off. Whatever the reason, try glue, even on the pei plate.
Thanks Kevin…What specific type of liquid glue…Is it water based solvent based, like Glag for paper etc. I would be most appreciative if you could be a little more specific
On textured PEI I’ve been using Bambu’s liquid glue. It’s not regular glue and has a slight acetic acid odor as it dries. I don’t know what common glues would be a suitable substitute but on textured PEI it keeps difficult to print stuff stuck down nicely. Just a thin coat is plenty.
I use stick glue for the cool plate when the back of a model is what’s on the plate. Glue stick can leave slight marks in the model surface touching it is why. It’s a little thicker of a coat that seems to hold extruded filament a bit stronger. A lot of people use other brands of glue stick.
It’s one of those small detail that can easily be turned off by accident and cause these types of issues so good to check for in the future
now regarding adhesive, I use the “old school” hairspray method. Easy to apply evenly, one application lasts for a few prints and it also is easy to clean off the plate with IPA. Aquanet Extra Super Hold does work well for me for a multitude of 3dp materials but don’t know what would be an equiv. for you in the Land down under.
what i have noticed is benchy from bambu studio prints fine, in PLA grey, translucent red and blue ,
i have printed something for a mate in PLA matte black at a 0.16 layer height no worries printed fantastic
printed a slot car track support in the PLA red ,
Currently using the bambu glue stick on the textureied PEI plate and have changed the volemtric speed of the red pla matte to 15mm3/s and upped the nozzle temo by 5 degress

One thing I don’t see in your things that don’t work is cleaning the bed plate. I once had a similar issue, some colors printed just fine and other didn’t. Same with different brands. Once I cleaned my bed plate it started working again.
Warm water and dish soap (I use Dawn) with an sponge. I use the sponges with an abrasive pad and very lightly scrub it with the pad. Rinse and let dry and most important of all, do not touch the printing surface with your hands or fingers.
I never have to use glue except with TPU and ABS or ASA. PLA always stick on my PEI sheets very well when the plate is clean.
