Filament PLA basic refill spooling phenomenon

Hello, I’m a beginner who started using Bambu Lab p1s and ams 2 weeks ago. I’m mainly using PLA Basic Black, but recently, a total of 3 spools have been released in a total of 10 refills.
When I asked someone I knew about this phenomenon, I got a reply that there was a problem with the production itself. Nevertheless, it seems to happen too often. How can I prevent this from happening?
Also, how to use something again?

The only thing I can suggest is to make sure that you are aligning the notch properly and to firmly lock the spools together, it’s not just tight I believe they will click when fully seated.

It’s also possible the black is made by a new/different manufacturer, did you notice any difference from other colors?

As you said, I turned it until it made a sound and fixed it. There is a variation in the color between the filaments when proceeding with automatic refilling

To start with the spool-opening issue: I’ve never encountered this myself, and I’ve gone through a few hundred refills by now. It is possible to misalign a spool slightly, and if you don’t hear a clear audible click, it isn’t locked and is not safe to use. Never remove the restraining tabs until you are completely sure the spool is seated correctly, the click is confirmed, and a quick check shows that it cannot be released without applying force.

Regarding color variation, it can differ between batches. I have two batches of ASA Aero where the shade is visibly different, and the AMS treats them as separate colors. Because the RFID data also differs, they cannot act as backups for each other even though the filament type and labeled color are the same.

To ensure that two spools can serve as backups, they need to come from the same batch. Otherwise, you may run into the frustrating situation where they look identical but the system still refuses to treat them as compatible.

Thanks for the solution. I’ll print it out and try it out. If I’m going to refill the same color, I’ll follow how to use the same batch.

Before putting on the refill, try fitting the two spool halves together and hear the click sound and feel the locking action. This will give one an idea what to hear and feel for when putting in the refil and lock. It also confirms that the two halves can lock without problem.

Yeah, I have one or two spools that don’t snap together properly, so that’s good advice.

I’m having all sorts of problems with the Bambu refills. There is a definite quality control issue.

My problem, as it won’t yet let me post a new topic due to their ridiculously convoluted system of being trusted, is how poorly the refills are wound.

I’ve just had 3 out of the last 4 spools jam up half way through as the spool has been poorly wound. The spool jams, overloads the motor, and if you’ve left a print running overnight, for instance, you return to it 8 hours later and it stopped an hour into the print.

It’s not the way I load the refills as I am VERY careful, especially as this keeps happening.

Essentially it looks like the filament comes from down the side of the spool all of a sudden, rather than coming off the top layer by layer.

The only way round it, without respooling the whole thing, is to pull out as much filament as you can be bothered, wind it back on, and then it will print for another hour or so before jamming. It’s not all rolls but my current batch seems o\to be almost every one.

I’ve had one instance where the roll then split apart, but that may have been as it hadn’t clicked together properly. However, the problem was caused by bad winding and cost me the whole roll of filament as it became as messed up as the one you showed above.

I like their filament, but unless the fix their QC issues I’m going to have to find an alternate as I am sick of constantly finding my prints have ground to a halt.

I’ve also had this happen with filament I’ve purchased on the spool, though that doesn’t appear to happen as frequently.

Also, as I have seen people say to use an “AMS saver” firstly I do, and secondly it doesn’t help with this problem as with the filament trying to come from down the side of the spool it just gets to the point there’s too much strain on the AMS motor, so it cuts out to save itself.

It’s a problem that everyone’s going through…

Not that I like others are going through it as well, but if it’s happening a lot then it’s more likely Bambu will do something about the QC.

It happened again last night and what should have been an 8 hour print took almost 16, as it jammed just after it started but as I’d gone to bed I didn’t know.

I think I’m going to have to switch to non Bamby filament for a while. I hope they fix the issue soon as I do prefer using their filament.
