I’m new to the A1, I’ve been using it for about a week, and I’ve had to end of trouble getting filament to load.
The latest iteration is that filament ran out mid-print. I’ve got another roll, but I can’t get it to load. I’ve replaced the spool, straightened the end and put a sharp point on it, and fed it into the extruder, but the extuder doesn’t even TRY to feed it when I press continue, just says the filament has run out again.
Am I doing something wrong?

I eventually gave up and canceled the print, so I could get at the filament menu. Still took 5-10 tries to get it to load filament, but at least it eventually worked. I’m not impressed by the A1 so far.

I don’t have an A1. But I have an idea of the problem.
If the printer is printing the problem has been solved.
But, the problem might be there is a small bit of filament in the head. I am guessing there are two filament sensors one just before the motor in the head. And another near where it is inserted. Try removing the PTFE tube from the head and with the nozzle hot push a piece of filament in till that color comes out the tip. (different color than the clogged piece) you might need to pull the old piece out.
Again this is from just an experienced printer, not someone that has the A1. I have heard a lot of good things about the A1. The Solution is something to pull out if it happens again.

- Does your A series have an AMS Lite or AMS hooked up to your printer?
- If you do have any form of AMS, was that involved in this printing process?
- Does the printer work now, after you gave up printing?
- If no AMS was involved, how long after the first filament spool ran out and you tried to swap it out for a fresh spool?
- What hot end temperature was shown on the display when you tried to feed the filament?
you probably had some filament stuck so you should try pushing the filament while its feeding to push the old filament out and the new filament in

No AMS/AMS-lite, just the external spool.
It ran out at ~12:30AM and I was trying to replace the spool at 6:30-7:00, so about 6 hours.
Now that I cancelled the print it loaded a new filament with only a little difficulty using the filament menu from the device screen.
When I was trying to figure it out I think the hot end had cooled down, but I couldn’t find anything that would allow me to heat it up.
it seemed like the extruder motor wasn’t even turning at all, My theory is/was that there was a sensor that was indicating no filament so the extruder wouldn’t even try.

So I have an A1 and have been using in for about 3 months. When it tells me to push the filament in, I push it in. When I asks if it extruding I look and the poop shooter. If I can’t see poop, I say nope, and start pushing filament when it tells me to. Then I check the poop shooter again. If I’ve got poop, I tell it, that the filament is feeding. Done. Take about 3 minutes for a switch.
That’s a good summary of what I think should be happening, but like I was saying it doesn’t even try sometimes. I wonder if one of the PTFE tubes isn’t well seated and that is creating a place where the filament jams or catches.
i dont have an a1 but from my experience i lost a bearing in the extruder and that makes it not work on a p1
if the nozzle is not up to a minimum level the motor does not try to move. Look up how to tell the noz to set a temperature. On some printers it is 150 or so. Minimum to melt low temp filament. You should set it high for the material you are using. Just to make sure there was not a bad spot in the filament.
That sounds reasonable, but it was not clear to me how to get the nozzle temp increased without canceling the print to get at the controls.
I’m having this problem too. I tried switching to a new filament in my #2 spool and it’s like something is locked. Is that how it is for you?
Since you said #2 spool, I’m guessing you’re using the AMS-lite. That’s not the case for me, but it might be for a similar reason. I think it may not be handling the case where the nozzle temp has dropped below a threshold and therefore isn’t allowing the filament to load. I’ll have to explore the next time filament runs out during a print.
I managed to get it to work after running out of filament mid-print. It was a combination of re-heating the nozzle using the Bambu Handy app, and then making sure that the tip of the filament wasn’t caught on something in the path. After that I mananged to get it to resume the print using a new spool.
after a lot of printing (2000-10000HR) there is some matenence needed. From the sounds of it you are far from that. Maybe it was a used printer. It depends on the filament used some are abrasive. The problem is the PTFE tube needs to be replaced some holes are warn in the tubes. the problem is the filament is grabbed by the slit in the tube. There are a few places to watch for. Any sharp bend in the tube: near the head, near the exit of the printer. There are 4 tubes inside the AMS.
This is a brand new printer, (2-3 weeks old). and I’m still learning its quirks. I’ve been having better luck in the last few days.
