Not sure where to post this.Not a print error because I monitor the print closely. Sometimes when I replaced a spool with new filament the filament gets stuck in the side up against the spool edge and I get a warning that my AMS motor is overheating. This appears to be due the how the filament is wound. Has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix other than closely monitoring and unrolling the filament and rewinding it manually toward the middle?

I’ve had that happen once, not sure in total how many rolls I’ve gone through but I’d say over 50 but under 100 so it hasn’t been too common for me at least. I found the easiest way was to roll the spool towards me until the filament was so loose it was only just possible to close the AMS. But it was still a pain and needed me to keep my eye on and repeat every 10 minutes or so.

There is a fix of sorts and is mentioned explicitly in the directions for refill spools. Before using the spool, massage the filament to spread the windings the full width of the spool.
But that may not help you with spools that are just loosely wrapped. With loose spools there are rewinders on MW you can print and just wind the filament onto a new spool with proper tension. Be mindful of the RFID tag though. Either use a hub with the proper tag or grab the tag from the old spool and tape it to the new.

I had exactly the same problem - drove me nuts. However it only appeared to be on one spool and when I got to about 50% I just threw it out because it was more trouble than it was worth. Never saw the problem other than on that one spool and I have never seen it since.
