I have a P1S that has been working fine for quite a while just recently the feed from the AMS wore though and jammed the filament. I cleared that but now the filament is stuck in the toolhead. I heated up the nozzle and tried manually to extrude with nothing happening. I tried a manual pull nothing. online tutorial doesn’t show how to remove the filament from the toolhead just the sensor. but there is no filament in the head to do that.
can I remove the hot end with filament still in it the extruder acts like it’s trying to move the filament, but nothing moves either up or down.
You can manually cut it, if I’m understanding your issue. Once you get it cleared you can either heat the nozzle up to 180 ish and use a 1.5mm hex screw to push the filament through once heated.
Check your cutter, make sure it’s not worn, as well as your PTFE tubes for wear. Both are consumables and can cause headaches like this. When you check the PTFE be sure to check the whole run, even the ones in the AMS.
If I understood right in the picture bellow the filament stuck bellow is in color red and by pushing new filament in the blue (first heat the nozzle and in the set to extrude filament) your stuck filament should be melted and it should be solved.
Something that could be happening is that the gears that push the filament in have worn the filament down. In this case, you should also heat the nozzle, set your printer to extrude, and manually push the filament with your hand.
I have fixed most of my issues with the toolhead by pushing filament in.
Use the filament cutter to manually cut the filament. You can then remove the hot end and extruder for number of hot hex wrench cold pulls (hotend) as mentioned by @R3d-Five and clean the extruder.
You may also want to have a look at the filament end for obvious signs of wear as mentioned by @MarinUs_3D before opening up the extruder for cleaning.
Note that it can be helpful to manually feed some filament into the extruder/nozzle during maintenance.
That’s the issue. your picture looks about right. I heated it to 230 degrees and pushed and pulled the filament with no movement, I even tried doing it while manually extruding either in or out and nothing moved. just stuck. I have a length of filament coming out of the head, but I’m afraid if I cut it shorter it will just make things worse. I have had to before heat up the nozzle and puch the filament out but the extruder was working then.
If you cut it, and it still won’t move up or down, youve likely got a “heat creep” bulged piece below the extruder gears and before the nozzle. You can do some risky things with heat to try to soften it more, so that it can be pushed through or pulled up, or you can disassemble the extruder unit and fish it out that way. Imagine those cartoons with a snake that ate a basketball. That’s the sort of thing you might find in there preventing the movement.
