Filament Types Change to ABS

I have a strange thing going on. When I create a new job, all my filaments are changed to ABS despite the fact I use mostly PETG.

The filaments are manually entered as they are Overture brand filaments.

Doing a Sync Info has no affect.

Bill

What are you trying to print? Something downloaded from MakerWorld?

Are you selecting “map” or “override” when you sync filaments?

Original content that I have created.

It is set to the Mapping (default?). I have made no changes to the settings.

Bill

Actually looking more closely at the filament dialog it is ADDING the ABS filaments as an addition to my list of PETG filaments.

A screen shot or even posting your 3mf would be helpful.

Don’t have a .3mf to post that occurred when this happened, or at least I have no idea which one to send. I will save one the next time this happens.

This issue is not consistent, It can go for days without showing up. Attached are two screen grabs from one event.

OK, here we go. Opened the program and saw the filaments all changed to ABS.

Saved a .3mf (attached)

Scrambled Filaments.3mf (20.7 KB)

When I loaded your 3mf, it brought in all the ABS filaments you showed me, but there was no model geometry present - but that’s not really an issue.

When you select “new project” , Studio will keep the filaments list from the last file you had open - which is a reasonable behavior that saves time rather than needing to resync as soon as a new project is started.

Similarly, when opening Studio it will retain the filament list from your last session.

I’m wondering if there’s an issue where your install of Studio is hanging onto a set of filaments from a file you opened at one point - and just isn’t letting go?

If you hit “sync filaments” does it update to only list the filaments that are loaded on your machine?

OK, more information. This might wind up being a “me” issue.

Opened Studio and imported a .stl file. Clicked Sync and then went to Change Filament this is the result:

I have 1 roll of PLA and 7 rolls of PETG spread across two AMS HT’s and two AMS PRO’s

Please note, I have NO filaments that are ABS in the house…

In the dialog for Sync Filaments there are two choices, Mapping & Overwriting. The default setting from installing was Mapping. I clicked Overwriting and the superfluous ABS filaments are gone.

Should I always be using Overwriting?

Mapping tries to match up what’s in your AMS with what was originally in the model, but it requires the same filament types.

Mapping
The first option is Mapping the filaments from the AMS to the Original Project Filaments by matching filament type and color, then allowing manual editing. This is similar to how this is done when sending a print, however, synchronizing now updates the project filaments and cannot be automatically reversed.

Overwriting blows that all away and just brings in your currently loaded filaments.

Overwriting
The second option is overwriting the project filaments with whichever filaments are in the first available AMS filaments, in order. This method is automatic and does not allow manual editing of the mappings of the filaments.

Both are useful in different scenarios.

OK. Starting to make more sense now…

I will do the assigned reading.

Bil

OK, that explains a lot. When I use overwrite the list is correct and the part is always a yellow filament, which just happens to be in slot 1 of the first AMS on the line.

I was right, it was a ME problem…

Bill

Glad you figured it out! If you could mark the solution post as “solution” that will help the board in the future. Thanks!

The key was the Overwrite lists them in order as read from AMS 1, AMS 2, AMS HT 1 and then AMS HT2. Bonus was the part getting the color changed to what was in Slot 1 of AMS 1.

I know, just once I imported a .3mf from the web and it made all sorts of changes to the part as far as filament types/colors. Knowing what I know now, that makes perfect sense.
