I’d stopped 3D printing until I got my P1S because I wanted to print, not engineer a printer.
Bambu printers still throw you back to that “time to engineer” experience if a printer has some extended downtime, and when someone hasn’t printed for a few weeks or months, it’s the wrong time to do that to them.
On-Device calibration tells you nothing, and the printer/software don’t really help you do the most basic determination - whether its your printer or filament that are the problem.
The impulse is to try changing settings, you just want to print, but you can end up spending days restoring the device to working conditions. I wonder how many people have given up on a printer when they could just have gone back to initial settings and switched filament spool?
E.g, my first run yesterday, there was zero adhesion on the first layer, but lots of adhesion around the nozzle.
- I’d put the filament in a drier for 3 hours and had it connected via the external feed not AMS, with AMS disconnected, but Bambu studio proceeded as though it was using AMS filament 1.
– Wrong filament selection: AMS when no AMS connected,
– Wrong filament setting: The filament was PETG not the PLA, - Dust/smoke (live near LA) build up had soiled the print bed, so still no adhesion once the settings were correct,
- Filament had gotten very damp, lots of build-up around the nozzle, which caused defects in surfaces once adhesion was achieved,

- Ugly stippling effect pattern at edges e.g where an inner surface meets a wall, with bumps that raised about .05-.1mm above the layer, causing an ugly line on the inside and outside of the wall.

– flow rate, maybe, or settling in the filament after drying? or insufficient drying?
I’d really like to see some quick-to-run prints that would pick up on some of the basics: adhesion, stringing, wetness, etc.
