Firmware 01.08.05.00 - Authorization Control is here

Why only on the internet?

I think there is (one of ) the problems - DEFINITION.
Last time I checked Studio is Bambu’s app to CONTROL the printer and to provide a slicer…
Technically Bambu can argue that it is two different entities.
The slicer slices just fine and does what a slicer does…
It is what Bambu piled up around it that is causing the headaches.

See it like in the old days - All we ever had was a driver for the board and literally ANY slicer out there would work once you configured it.
You had only the option to plug in a USB cable to connect to your printer - SD cards came later.
With the addition of Wifi connectivity nothing really change - it was just a different way to communicate.
Sadly Bambu decided to pervert this entire concept claiming security improvements that no user requested, that no user was willing to struggle with.

IF and that is a huge IF, all WOULD have worked as advertised - no one would have had reason to complain.
But once established workflows are rendered useless, connectivity problems become the norm and not the exception than it is time for Bambu to wake up.
There is only one way to wake such a company - by users turning their back on them and making Bambu feel financial losses.

Just check their total ignorance to the topic…
Any company caring about their customer and user base would LISTEN…

Don’t accept to update. Eventually, switch to LAN mode if you don’t want to see further updates notifications.

I won’t buy another Bambu printer with the current authentication poop. Sadly I suspect Bambu’s arrogance, ignorance, and incompetence means I won’t ever buy another Bambu printer.

You are correct but people on the internet are often much more unfiltered and somehow the dunning kruger effect is much stronger online.

That is the only way sadly but it’s not a valid solution.

My x1c still on the pre enshitification firmware, 01.08.02.00, if i accidentally update can I still downgrade to pre authorization control ?

They said users are welcome to stay on the current firmware but I have no option to disable check for updates, and its constantly harassing me to update, at least I expect is to be able to downgrade.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on the downgrading option/possibility (Bambu has been known before to have blocked downgrading below a certain version - see in this regard what happened after the launch of the (non Bambu) X1Plus firmware. Bambu launched a firmware update that didn’t allow downgrading below it). I’m definitely keeping my machines away from any of the enshitifying versions launched since January 16th this year. And honestly, haven’t had any issues running my printers as I see fit, or using OrcaSlicer and other 3rd party devices I’ve acquired and installed, without having to use their sh1tty bloatware (Connect) and other creepy stuff they’ve added to their software/firmware. Happy to keep it that way.

Rollback options do tend to disappear from Handy.

I don’t think they can stop the return to an older, downloaded firmware version unless they remove the offline update option altogether. It might be worth keeping your own archive of versions for possible future use.

As long as you are running 01.08.02.00 (released in Aug '24) or later, you should be able to use a downloaded firmware as Ikarus pointed out.

The most concerning thing (which keeps me from buying a Bambu Labs printer) is the complete ignorance from Bambu. There is not even the attempt to justify making their printers unavailable for anything outside of their own products. Pathetic. Also - their argument regarding being liable for what is being printed?? Since when do Chinese ■■■■ companies give a sh1t about legal concerns around the world??? BULLCRAP!!

Thats actually not quite true. Im not sure where you are from, but Bambulab is most likely preparing for a proposed law in the US. Amongst other things it makes 3D printer manufacturers responsible for certain shapes they print (How ever thats going to be able to be checked is beyond me). Joel Telling from 3D Printing Nerd made a video about that recently.

Next to that the Apple’s of these world have a closed eco-system and most people except that too. The argument that Chinese companies don’t care about rules, might have some merit. But the question there is, whos rules. I seem to recall that a certain president in a certain country even doesnt care about rules nd laws when it suits him. The same president and his friend on the other side of a big pool of water also dont care about borders if they dont like them.

Not sure if Bambulab is the evil genius here.

Having said that: I personally am not an open source lover for open source sake. If I cant use the devices I bought, thats where my issue would be.

Beating dead horse here. They’re not removing it. Flat out.

What needs to be done now that printers are EOL, is remove the security functions to permit direct to device printing by default. That or someone find a way to properly jailbreak the printer. Sure I will miss the remote print from app. Please tell me what good has come of the security function if its not going to be enforced! If this was such a critical issue, why have they not blocked everything? Clearly its not as bad as they think.

Flat out, 1.8.2 has been the most solid firmware I’ve used. Aside from this new formula they’re using for BBL branded PLA (which under extrudes) and PETG HF (which globs and strings horribly despite 10% humidity and calibrations), the firmware has given me zero reason to update.

If you are happy with 1.08.02 (as I am), you should consider the X1Plus firmware enhancement. It uses the Bambu 1.08.02 base firmware and adds many convenience and access features. I’ve used it since it was released two years ago, and it has been flawless.

Much appreciated, I will look into it.

I was just about to get back to switching to that. Firmware numbers on their installation guide didn’t seem to line up with what I was seeing the first time I did it, and then I had some anomalies that made me pause before trying in install of an X1 Plus Expander. (Main thing I really want is a wired network connection…)

But it didn’t stop me from doing a bunch of prints anyway, and it’s behaved perfectly every time.
