Popped up to install on my H2D printers, changelog shows:
Fixed the issue of filament oozing on the purge tower caused by mismatched retraction and loading lengths when switching between left and right nozzles.
Fixed the rare HMS error: “System memory insufficient, foreign object detection not working.”
Fixed the rare false report of print bed offset.
I thought this firmware might be a lot larger with fixes/improvements as it’s been a while since the last (H2D is still pretty new so usually there’s more updates generally speaking).
Historically, Bambu Lab hasn’t shown much affection for their “older” systems — they probably pushed this fix only because it was an easy one. Just look at the tungsten nozzle support: it arrives on the P2S first, even though the H2D already verifies nozzles natively, leaving you with the honor of pressing “Continue” if you actually want to use it.
I wouldn’t expect them to suddenly start caring about already released units; they seem far more interested in chasing the next big hype so the “latest and greatest” crowd can drool and brag on the forum.
Harsh? Maybe. But that feeling of neglect is definitely there.
They’ve always been really slow with firmware releases and Bambu Studio updates—too slow for a company that makes and sells thousands of machines a month and claims ecosystem and efficiency as core strengths. The X series, even if slowly, has been handled well in my view, and the P series too. As for the H2D, it feels like a dog abandoned by its owner. They toss us a “make-good” firmware that doesn’t actually solve the machine’s early-age issues. It has great potential, but it still doesn’t offer the quality of life it should—
One more thing about Bambu Lab’s firmware updates is that they often include changes or features not mentioned on the release page.
With this latest firmware, I’ve encountered a new issue — not critical, but somewhat amusing.
I use the exhaust fan to vent the chamber after printing, but when the printer is in heating mode, it doesn’t seem to understand that it should switch to cooling mode. I’ve been reporting this problem since day one of owning the H2D, yet nothing has been addressed.
Now, with this firmware, it somehow “thinks” it’s in cooling mode (when it clearly isn’t) and throws a warning stating that the internal heater is abnormal and has been shut down.
I’d assume the heater shouldn’t even be active in that situation — but who knows what goes on in Bambu Lab’s logic
And yes, I’ve double-checked using the older firmware, where this lovely new problem doesn’t exist.
So, this update gave me more bugs and absolutely no benefits at all
Even more fun facts about Bambu Lab and their firmware: they claim to perform rigorous testing before every release.
That’s also their go-to excuse for ignoring feature requests — apparently, everything must go through extensive validation first.
Yet, when both the H2D and X1C got their flashy new GUI update, the X1C somehow lost its external spool support.
So much for that “extensive and rigorous testing.”
Probably not even then — maybe around 2030 if we’re lucky. But by then, their next shiny, overhyped gadget will be the only thing they care about anyway…
