First layer issues A1 combo

I am having an issue with the first few layers are not printing well. I have tried different nozzles(0.4 Stainless and Hardened). I have tried a Glacier plate, Frostbite and the standard Bambu PEI plate. I have tried it with multiple filaments types and colors. It will print good after the first few layers. I also tried to re-calibrate the system multiple times. I have checked all of the hotend screws and they are tight. I even tried a new extruder assembly. At a loss. Any ideas?

Are you sure you have a clean build plate? Also, when I opened Studio about an hour ago there was a configuration update that was supposed to fix a bug on the A1 causing the nozzle to scrape the build plate. You might want to do the update and see if that helps.

I made sure all 3 of the build plates were clean. Yes, I did get the new config update. No difference. I also did a factory reset which did not help. Just did a belt tension and will calibrate and try again.

you could try to use some sort of glue stick on the build plate. It is a life saver for me.

It seems like flow dynamics calibrations are off, due to there only being one line at the bottom. Turning this setting on will likely help with this.

I’d normally say flow rate but the outer wall looks jagged and weird too. Is this supposed to be a simple 4corner square with straight 90deg angles? When it prints the walls are they straight, But they get blown out when the infill comes in?

It’s a 1 layer square 250 x 250. Edges are wavy. Not sure what else to try. I even used some Creality PLA with a generic profile and the same thing happens.

So this might be a little obnoxious to see but:

When it does the walls, but before it does the infill, are the edges very straight? Is it the result of the bottom infill being printed “blowing out the straight sides”?

The other artifacts show that it is definitely flowing too much for the space, but for first layer that can be a whole bunch of variables. Autocalibration z offset issue, global flow rate, feature flow rates, etc. Z offset is my guess. Trying to fix that is a bit of a crapshoot: clean Z rods real well at the bottom, no scrap anywhere under magnetic plate, those 3-then-4 screws on the hotend, nozzle clip done up correctly, etc. If this issue recreates itself reliably after calibrations, orcaslicer can be used to test by directly manipulating the z offset on the machine profile, so you can send it a purposely wrong number to counteract the consistently wrong calibrations.

I think it’s the x axis bearings. There is some roughness towards the middle of the travel. Looks like Bambu doesn’t sell a replacement for the A1 just the A1 Mini.

Replaced the heater module and now the system is working like new. I think the wires were routed incorrectly.
