Hi Guys,
Just got my P1S printer with AMS and wanted to try color lithophanes. Using .2 SS nozzle and system preset 0.10 standard @ BBL with 0.2 nozzle. First layer .15 per recommendations.
Both times I tried to do this print it messed up in the exact same place. Looks like it is not extruding enough when it gets here?
Any ideas or other info I need to give?
Thanks!
Thanks for your reply! Yes, I did clean the plate with Dawn and hot water. Do you think this is an adhesion problem? To me it looks like for some reason it is not extruding or under extruding in that area but I could be mistaken.
You might want to check the plate’s adhesion or if it’s moist.
There seems to be many places that have gone up, like bubbles under a phone film. It might because of the heating causing air under the first layer to expand resulting in bubbles. This doesn’t happen a lot, so it might be that your plate has some problems. Look closely at the places where the problems are on your plate.
You might also want to print it in another place, and check if the problems are in the same places on the plate.
So the question I didn’t see answered here. Does this bubbling happen in the same location consistently? If you move the first layer model or better yet, skew the orientation angle by some odd-numbered angle that is a factor of 7, does the artifact move with the model or remain in the same location?
Thanks guys, I am going to try wash and dry the plate again. I will move the model to see if it does the same thing when I print. I’ll get back to you all.
So I scrubbed the plate with Dawn and hot water, dried it with a microfiber towel, put down a good amount of Bambu glue stick, turned up the bed heat to 60 and rotated and moved the lithophane to a different part of the bed.
Everything was going perfect until halfway through the first layer and the filament decided to jam in the extruder! Guess it is just beginner luck! lol. Just spent a half hour fixing the jam and going to try another attempt before bedtime.
Thanks for the help guys!
There are more than a few .2 mm nozzle threads with issues like you are having. Myself, I have not been able to get a clean first layer on my X1. Ever. With a .2 mm nozzle. Different plates. Different filaments. Glue. No glue. Slow down. Speed up. Increase and decrease temps. All the usual suspects.I gave up and print lithophanes with the .4 mm nozzle.
Dana, I agree With what you said about .2 nozzle. I never got a perfect first layer for the diffuser or the lithophane. I did change to the .4 nozzle for the frame however and got an almost perfect first layer. With a lot of work I was able to get an acceptable first layer and both the finished diffuser and picture came out fine. Not sure though if the small improvement in picture resolution was worth the time and effort to use a .2 instead of .4 nozzle.
John, You may be right about the filament not being dry enough but it is only been a few days since I opened it and it has been hot and dry here where I live. Also the black filament I used for the frame is about 5 years old since I bought it when I got my Ender 3 V1 and the first layer came out really nice.
I also wanted to post a picture of the finished product. I could not be happier with this as a first attempt. I hope this post has helped someone else with this problem and once again thanks for the help everyone!
Let me know if anyone has any questions or I can be of help to anyone else playing around with these color lithophanes.
Just a bit of experience. Just opened filament can be very damp. I’ve come to think that vaccum sealed from the factory means it’s been packaged. Nothing more.
