Probably like everyone, I’ve struggled to get good layer 1 adhesion at times. Fortunately since moving to the P1S I’ve had very good success with mostly default settings, or by increasing the first layer temp 5 or 10 degrees when I’ve had adhesion problems with a specific filament. But recently I’ve started having the opposite issue - prints are stuck so tightly that I’ve actually pulled the first layer partially loose when prying it off the bed. I also notice the “wipe” print is really stuck and the nice textured build plate finish is distorted. At present I’m printing all layers at 55C using the textured build plate. I thought that auto bed levelling would optimize the Z axis clearance but maybe I’m missing something. Any suggestions as to which parameters to tweak or other steps I should take to get back to my “normal” adhesion level would be appreciated.
Adhesion varies by material type. If it is sticking that well, use some glue on the build plate, it also acts as a release agent.
I had the same issue when I got my P1s (my first 3d printer), never figured out what exactly the issue was, but haven’t really had the issue for quite some time. I almost just chalked it up to “the textured PEI plate needs a break in period”. The one thing that I might point to that helped was slowing down the first layer and increasing the nozzle temperature a bit. Don’t ask me why, I can’t explain it.
I will note, I’ve never needed glue for the textured PEI plate, or even the engineering plate, once things settled down.
This. Glue does both. If you need more adhesion when build plates start losing “stick”, glue can help. Textured PEI plates seem to loose stick over uses and liquid glue kept my old build plates useable.
But glue also puts a cap on the force needed to remove a print from a build plate. It’s a thin layer between plastic and plate where the model doesn’t actually touch the plate so the model can’t bond.
I don’t know if this is the wrong thread or not, but I’ve been wondering if/ how to print pla on an engineering plate. Thanks!
If you have the ‘engineering plate’ you need to use glue no matter what filament you are printing per Bambu recommendation.
