Try printing it directly from the P1S screen, I don’t think you can select a gcode file in Bambu studio.
No sticker on mine dude. And what I was referring to were the instructions on how to tram the printer, not whether it was or wasn’t hot-swappable. Example: You wouldn’t know if you were supposed to load the tramming gcode onto your included SD card or if you use a second one. What’s obvious to one person may not be for someone else. I don’t mind admitting I’m slow.
I have a problem that looked like this on my old printer, I never found the problem, except that I no longer had any problem after changing the filament spool.
Afterwards, This may not be your case, It seems that it is the back of the plate that generates the problem. Don’t you have a thermometer to measure the temperature of the plate everywhere? Even when it is cold, it is always useful for when the heater is on to check if it corresponds everywhere to what the LCD screen indicates.
Courage!
Might try turning ironing ON for all top surfaces.
You know, doc, I’ve never given that a try. I’ll do that today even though my printer seems to be back to normal after a few calibrations. I never did do the manual cal because I could never get the printer to detect the gcode.
No offence but to me it seems clear that you have some communication issues.
Did you ever do a clean and fresh install of Studio?
I struggled with a lot of issues, including the management of custom filaments and unexplainable print failures.
All went away like magic after I got rid of Studio, cleaned up the Windows registry and installed the latest Studio version matching the latest firmware.
If your problem is still confined to the rear of the plate things might be different but if you have nothing to loose and not too many custom profiles check if things improve with a clean Studio install.
I don’t know what you mean by communication issues. I think I stated my problem as clearly as I could complete with pictures and as far as I recall, I tried the various recommendations from forum members and from BBL.
You’d be correct in saying I haven’t reinstalled Studio though I do keep it updated and I’m willing to acknowledge that it’s an idea that hadn’t occurred to me and one that no one else suggested.
As to Windows tweaks and updates, that can lead to all kinds of rabbit holes that most of us (I think that’s fair to say) really aren’t qualified to get into beyond accepting updates, which I do.
I was just telling another member that after several full calibrations I think I’m back to normal. I said that before and had to take it back.
One thing I was never able to do and probably don’t need to do was the manual bed leveling which requires a gcode file that I was never able to get my printer to perform despite BBLs advice. Sometimes I think their responses are AI generated as they recommend things that I’ve already reported doing. Anyhow, for now, I seem to be problem free.
Not your communication - the one between machine and computer
You did what most users do and what I kept doing.
Update Studio, stay on top and hope it works as advertised.
Sometimes though a clean and fresh start is like a fresh install of Windows - things just work.
Not saying it is the fix for your long problems but I am running out of other ideas.
If a clean install of Studio and re-assigning the printer to it won’t help we have to try get more creative I think…
Do you have a really big and heavy hammer ??
No way man! I loooove my BBL P1S (and my A1).
So far, one way or the other, I’ve been able to solve my issues. I know there’s a lot of bad press right now, and I’m not saying it’s unjustified, but I think if I was going to recommend to a friend which one to buy, I’d still say Bambu. I’d like to try a Prusa, but their latest and greatest has a smaller build plate than the P1S and costs more. Seems really odd to me that they didn’t go a little bit bigger than the P1S instead of a little bit smaller. I suspect customer service would be better, but I really don’t know.
Building on what user_3026326371 said, I had massive bed adhesion (first layer lines would not stick AT ALL on somewhat random places) inconsistencies and finish troubles out of nowhere and for me it was actually the printers frimware (01.07.00.00) that messed things up for me.
I did downgrade to 01.06.01.02, then power cycled the printer (power off for 10-15s), did a full calibration and another powercycle. Now its back to being a perfect workhorse.
I got this from a post on a malfunctioning A1 somwhere in july 2024, so it seems sometimes an update might corrupt something and lead to z axis inconsistencies, thats the best explanation i have.
cheers
Nice find indeed and slams right into the open door of good habits.
For me though it was a bit of the opposite.
Very long, very boring
After basically only ever having done updates of Studio and the firmware I was sort of used of all those nagging issues so many users kept complaining about.
I mean, why get frustrated so much if it something we can’t fix…
But only after a few days of ‘enjoying’ the new features and improvements I got really #$%^&*$ - if you know what I mean.
Custom filament profiles would be great if working…
Better calculations and bug fixes should heave meant my prints come out better than ever but they got worse almost every day.
Wanted to just clean out the things I added and changed but must have done something wrong as suddenly non of my custom profiles showed up in Studio.
Out of frustration I uninstalled Studio the hard way and pondered with Orca for a while until I said to myself that I am not starting over with a new slicer just to get stuck the same way.
Long story short, I cleaned up the registry, ignored my manual installation files and used the official Bambu way.
Get the printer into thw WiFi using Handy, have Studio find it, check that it works, up into LAN only mode.
Did not even bother with test prints, just started setting up my filaments from scratch, calibrated them and whacked the last STL files back on there that utterly failed to print.
This time though they came out near perfect using just the default print profiles…
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot ??!! Nothing actually changed how can this be a solution?
After a lot of VM installations and messing with them I think I figured out enough…
The printer is a surprisingly complex thing, in terms of communication needs AND relying on many Windows default apps, services and such.
It used a weird mix of comm protocols and ways to contact the WiFi, Studio, Windows AND at times and despite LAN only mode tries to send encrypted data back to China.
From what I could gather it does not seem to be concerning data, firmware version, last models and some things I could not fully wok out but all seem to be related to the printer and printer functions.
Those logs the printer keeps creating and tries to send home are quite revealing in a VM as well.
Not sure what is all in those encrypted logs but they certainly include model files as their size changes depending on what models I used and for the size always is a bit more than those models - go figure our models are logged…
Anyway, all this stuff means that both the WiFi AND Windows need to met demands.
Ever noticed how quickly a registry starts to explode in size when installing just a few standard apps ?
In there is some issues as more often than not Windows fails to clean house when apps are removed or uninstalled.
Especially when comes to things those apps added, like the network plugin or changes to registry entries shared with other programs.
Studio on the other hand seems straight forward by comparison - SEEMS…
One major issue I found is that their crappy installer is very unflexible, it just deletes files from the previous installation and dumps the new ones in.
One major nightmare for me was and still is Bambu’s grandfather based ID system.
Their what ???
Let me try to explain as simple as I can >
The printer as a serial number and such other hardware part which are ‘locked’ together.
The printer’s ID is used to generate those access codes and we use it to somehow make Handy and Studio to the printer.
But and that seems to be a major but, Bambu used the same for all else.
Studio, well, the slicer also has an ID, the filaments have ID’s and so on.
Everything from basic communication all the up to storing k-factors and colours in the AMS go back to those ID’s and this strong need to encrypt almost everything.
For Studio this means that for example your custom filaments link back to the matching generic filament or the one that you selected as the base for this ‘copy’.
One one side this is great as you only need to include what the user changed but not the entire lot that makes a filament profile work.
On the other side it means that when Bambu decides to ‘update’ those defaults that your custom things might get badly messed up.
If you felt the need to enable a setting and change it but the the Studio update also enables this setting - which one do you think gets priority ?
Correct, it will be the wrong one of course.
Worse still, if the ID of a default filament changes for whatever reason the custom profiles linked to can disappear or fail to produce good prints as then several settings are literally not available and won’t considered by the slicer…
The nightmares don’t end there though
Studio, well the installer at least and the initial set up, seems to get confused if a user dares to not be a fresh one.
Part of the problem is Bambu’s demand to have all go through the cloud.
It is expected that you link the printer to your account and that you keep everything updated there - so that restoring things can go smoothly.
Means Handy makes sure the printer gets all updated things when you pair it again and Handy find things outdated, the printer just does it in the background.
Or it should…
So you might end up with NEW files and defaults on the printer but once you get Studio going again through an update you can end mist a mismatch - one neither the installer NOR Studio realises.
I had it quite often in my VM tests that despite trying hard Studio started with the DEFAULT profile but not my user profile.
All right there, unchanged in my user folder Studio just took over and ‘integrated’.
No chance to make any of it usable in Studio - as some ID’s had changed from the previous version and the new filament handling also provided some changes.
There is no real consistency though, sometimes all goes well, sometimes it ends with a total mess or anything between.
With a clean install and deleting all that was on the SD to replace it with the files from the Wiki and of course getting my custom profiles back through screenshots and manual labour ALL my issues disappeared and some that I did not even know were issues.
The AMS keeps what needs to keep, does not mess up, Studio syncs with it properly, I can change filament from unused slots mid print and well, if I re-slice my old models, rather than trying to use the created, old 3MF files even they come out better than ever.
With the printer on I can start Studio, prepare a print and it actually finds the printer and correct AMS slots without having to go through the device tab first to connect the printer.
Print uploads no longer fail for a lost connection either, even the largest files just keep going until done and then the print starts.
If I would not see this every day and without those access code losses I would say impossible but it is possible…
Similar for loosing the next button or already the calibration buttons being greyed out.
Although that is not totally fixed, I still advise to NOT go into any other tabs while calibrating, like taking a sneak peak in the device tab to see it the lines or patches print well…
Go to the printer to check and let it complete and all is good, stays good.
Did I learn some lessons after months of never ending nightmares?
Sure…
Like that Bambu COULD do a much better job with those updates and the integration of user settings/profiles.
Or that when updating those things should automatically be exported and imported back when the update is complete - including a proper check and if required adjustment so the files will actually work as before.
But as said in the bloop above - like with so many programs and additions in Windows Studio is happiest after a clean install and doing it all from scratch if it was a major update you skipped a few versions…
Same for the printer or probably just the SD and initial setup after a firmware update.
Full hardware calibration as otherwise a lot of thing can go out of whack.
Keep in mind that quite often vital things were changed and if you just got a new engine for your car you take care of those things, don’t you
The SD seems to have a life of its own…
A little hickup or power loss while transferring files, forgetting to use the Eject option in the menu - boom all of a sudden you have all sorts of problems, qite often none of them seem related to the SD you just confused or that has damaged sectors and needs a fresh format…
Now… Should have to endure and consider all this just to stay in the loop with updates and changes?
Of course not but until Bambu finds better ways or gives us a proper LAN only mode without imposed restrictions AND and option go without all these security certificates and encryptions to use our own TRUSTED certificates…
Not all is bad, at least for our ‘lower’ priced printer series…
There is one thing though I still really struggle with and maybe I get lucky and one of their human support workers can answer this >
If I could work all this out and get a properly working printer and Studio why does the support seem totally out of the loop and unaware of the home cooked causes?
Until Studio can be updated on ALL flavours of Windows, no matter how much a users might have added it would be really nice to have a standalone update tool.
Studio finds an update? Great, but if the user agrees to download and install it the updater takes over.
Closing Studio, creating a WORKING backup of all user changes and additions, cleaning up for folders AND registry to then install the new version and integrate what was previously backed up.
This would especially helpful in a multi-printer setup where any downtime might cause delays and/or financial losses.
Of course it would be really need if the update tool would also include like a compatibility checker/fixer than can deal with old 3MF files to get them in line with new Studio versions - as NEW files so the originals are still available in case a downgrade is required.
Ok, enough of the blah blah…
That’s very interesting! Thanks for sharing that. I’ll have to look into that.
I watched Elon Musk trying to explain to Joe Rogan something about drag vs velocity (or something like that). After a few sentences, Joe told Elon “I’m not smart enough to talk about this”.
And I’m certainly not smart enough to talk about your post.
LOL
Isn’t the whole point ??
Back when I started with computers there were no users like today.
You had to actually know and remember things to get anywhere.
But today there is an app for everything, even apps to help you find your apps - go figure…
No one cares how their computer works or what makes their phones tick…
And if you OR ME would try it would be near impossible.
The corporate idea is that we do as told and use what is ‘suggested’.
You don’t really need to know how your printer or studio works, you only need to know to use them
I tried to stay in the loop but trust me when I say that you don’t have to feel bad here.
Even for me it becomes harder and harder to stay on top because things just keep changing/improving faster than ever…
Thing with easy and out of the box is that once it isn’t most users feel very lost…
You have no idea how much goes to waste that could be fixed with ease and for cheap just an ‘upgrade’ these days is too tempting.
Why spend money on a costly fix if for a ‘bit’ more you can have the latest and best…
Or do you still have a watch maker/repair shop around or those radio and TV repair shops we had so many of in our analogue days ?
What’s a TV repair shop? I couldn’t find one in the Yellow Pages.
A TV repair shop is a business that specializes in fixing broken or malfunctioning televisions, where trained technicians diagnose and repair various issues like screen problems, sound problems, connectivity issues, power failures, and more, often replacing damaged parts to restore the TV to working order.
You know, a place that REPAIRS things rather than telling you to throw it in the bin
Yep. They say we don’t need to repair things anymore. I would wager that every major manufacturer on the planet has an environmental pledge on their website. It’s a race to see who can be more green. Yet all of their products will eventually be in the landfill. Just take one thing. Refrigerators. When they break, you replace them and put the old one in the landfill. There must be millions of them and that’s just one appliance. Same for cars! How many of those are there? I don’t want any of them lecturing me about the environment or climate. Don’t get me started.
Is the printer fixed now? Hopefully it is, I’ve been away for a while(doing other things) just curious in case it happens to me.
Yes. It’s fine now. I don’t remember now what I did. Probably just going through the calibration bit.
Glad to hear it, it takes us old buggers a bit longer to get there nowadays but we get there eventually
