I tried a full manual calibration in Bambu Studio, in this case for PETG-HF (default flow rate is 0.95):
1st coarse calibration prints 9 tiles from -20% to +20%, could not decide between 0% and +5%, I choosed 0%.
After that the 2nd fine calibration prints 10 tiles, but only from 0% down to -9%
Why only negative values? The best value could also be f.e. +3%.
I do not understand the logic behind.
I don’t know why it is this way. As a rule of thumb you could pick the higher of the numbers you are considering since the fine calibration only does negative increments.
I wish they would provide better filament calibration tools in Studio.
You do usually want to pick the higher number if you are undecided There is no need to stick with increments of 5. If +5 is much closer to being right than 0, but +10 is obviously too much, try +7.5.
I use a crude spreadsheet to perform the flow rate calculations, and also to preview the range of flow rates to be tested.
Changes in the yellow fields are reflected in the Final Flow Rate.
Play with the numbers and you will see that the modifiers test overlapping ranges. If you start with a 0.98 rate, the +10 modifier tests values all the way back down to 0.981, basically the same as the original flow. I don’t think the third decimal place is really meaningful for flow rates.
