Hello, I have always determined the flow rate with a cube that has two walls without filling so far. That also worked quite well. Until now. Somehow it doesn’t work anymore, as I know it. No matter what I specify with the flow rate, the two walls remain exactly 1.0 mm wide. Can someone confirm that? VG

Can you provide further details? I never liked that method, but if I recall, it is the one where you measure the four walls’ thickness and assess each against the walls’ line width?
What isn’t clear:
- Did you successfully use that method in the H2D, and now it fails?
- If so, what is the line thickness of the outer and inner walls? Standard 0.42mm and 0.45mm, respectively? Which filament?
- If not, I will try the Bambu Studio method.
Hi JayZay and thank you for your reply. I own 3 X1C and have calibrated my filaments since the beginning. It is also important that the printed parts are also dimensionally stable. With the H2d it doesn’t work anymore. No matter what value I enter in the flow rate, the cube with two walls and without infill remains at 1 mm.
flow rate is not the same in orcaslicer/bambuslicer as it is in cura.
You are looking for the controls named quality → line width → “outer wall width”
There is a big difference between fooling the machine w/ extra flow to put down 0.50 IRL in the allocated 0.42 space, vs flowing 0.50 into an allocated 0.50 space. Imagine doing that with 2 walls… or 3… or 4… how magnified the problem becomes
Be aware… the past methods may not always yield the results we are looking for. The H2D doesn’t work the same as the X1/P1, when it comes to flow or extrusion. It has various automatic adjustments which appear to override the requested flow rate.
So it is very possible you are doing everything the way you should, but those methods may not work without additional adjustments. Unfortunately, it isn’t clear what is needed when the system begins to override user settings.
I do my flow rate calibrations in a similar mannar, although I just use a single wall. I ran into this same issue where I thought a change to the flow rate did not change anything until I realized I was changing the flow rate value for the standard nozzle settings instead of the high flow rate nozzle (which I was using). After setting the flow rate for the correct nozzle, the wall thickness changed correctly.
