I understand what it’s for, but are you supposed to remove plastic strip or leave it on?
If you mean that you have a plastic strip over the foam, I can only say that I don’t have any and can’t really remember one being there either. The foam absorbs the hit of the chain, while some smooth plastic might allow it to slide a bit. But mine works fine without.

I recently noticed the plastic protective strip on mine. I had the same question about whether to leave it or peel it off. I went back through the initial setup instructions and noticed that they do include it in the packing materials to remove, it’s just very easy to overlook in the photo they provide. I peeled the plastic off mine, looks a lot better.
